Cutting images with the pen tool in PS6

Mar 28, 2004 10:50

I checked the Photoshop memories, and didn't see a heading for this, so I thought I'd throw it together-if there's already a tut on it, feel free to delete it. :)

It does work in PS7, but the settings are a little different-it looks like they've combined the pen tool and the shape tool, so to use this tutorial you have to make sure you've changed the settings at the top so they look like this:

I underlined the settings you need to have selected in red.

Hope that helps! ^_^

Heheh...Oops. ^^;; But luckily enough, I have PSP7 too! So I checked, and here's a similar way of doing it: use the draw tool, with the point-to-point setting. Create a new layer, and outline your image. When you want to close the path, create a point right next to your start point and click "close path". Then use the magic wand to select the area outside or inside of your image, whichever part you want to cut, select the layer you want to cut, and cut it. If you want to feather the edges, go to Selections>>Modify>>Feather.

When I tested it, it did pretty much the same thing, so hopefully it'll work the same for you and I didn't skip a step.

That'll teach me to read a little more carefully, eh?

Sure! What about it exactly would you want explained? If you just want me to go through it step by step, I'll write out a seperate post for it. ^_^

(Also, I use ImageReady. I could probably figure it out in Animation Shop, but it might take me a little longer.)
