Layers won't stay selected [PSCS2]

I browsed through the photoshop errors section in the memories, but couldn't find anything like this, and it's only just started--I've never had a problem like this before, so if anyone could offer any help, I'd be most appreciative.

I used to think I'd have nothing to complain about in CS2 if, instead of going to my layer pallete and scrolling through some 30 layers to find what I wanted to work on, I could just LOOK at the layer and it'd automatically be selected.

You know how they say, "Be careful what you wish for"?

I'm now at the point where all I have to do to select a layer is hold my mouse over it. That's it. No clicking, no layers pallete, nothing. Just put my mouse over it and move it, if that's what I want to do. It's...a mixed blessing. But more often than not, especially when layers are linked or the layer is set at a low opacity so I can't SEE it to hold my mouse over it, it's kind of annoying.

I've no idea HOW this happened, if it was just a glitch or I pressed some random set of keys to get the effect, but I'm waxing desperate to allow myself to just select a layer from the pallete and have it STAY selected. Has anyone had a similar experience, or have any idea how to stop this, if it's even possible?
