Question:-

I'm making a header. I have a red backgroud, I want to use a heart brush, but it's backgroud is white? what do I do to get rid of the white background of the heart brush, and just use the heart?

My problem )

i'd say, get a blank template, use the brush, and then delete the background and everything, then copy and paste to the header you're working on..possibly..maybe? lol

If it's already a brush I don't know, but if it's an image pack thing then you should open it. Go to edit then click on Defind as brush usually the white goes away. At least for me it does :)
Hope this helps.

If it's a brush, then all you need to do is make a new layer and stamp the brush on it in whatever colour you want the heart to be. The background shouldn't come out at all, just the part of the brush that is the heart.

If it's an image of a heart shape with a white background, my best advice would be to define it as a brush. You could just use the image in overlay, but the white area would affect the colour underneath it.

I think it's the second one, I have tried that but the white won't go. I've uploaded an example picture up, if you could take a look at it.

Thanks for commenting.

Yeah, definitely looks like it's an image with the heart on it. Hmmn... if you're using Photoshop, my advice would be to define it as a brush (I think it's edit > define brush). If you're using PSP, I'm not sure how to make a brush from an image, but there must be a way.

If you can't define a brush, then you might want to use the selection tool (can't remember the name right now, and I'm at work, so I don't have Photoshop here, but it's the one that looks like a little magic wand), click on the white area, and then delete (or edit > cut). That should take out the white and leave the heart behind.

Otherwise, you can set that layer to 'overlay' in the blending modes, but again, the white area will affect the colour underneath it.

Hope that helps!

In PSP8, you seect the brush, go to the toolbar to change the brush shape, and then go to import, or create new it might be - and there should be (somewhere round there) the option to create from selection. (course, you need to have the whole image selected and as the active file first :) ) That adds it to your list of available brush shapes (all named, and alphabetical), so you find it and select it, then it's ready to use.

if you don't mind the heart being black, just set the layer on multiply, darken or any other of those "make the layer darker" settings. fiddle around to get what you want
