It's time for our third round of Ask the Maker!
Here you'll get the chance to ask icon makers who sign up, questions about their icons and other graphics. You can ask for tutorials, guides/"How to", or ask any other questions regarding their work so the makers can compile a Q&A post with the answers to all the questions they get. As always, .PSD

The composition in these icons are different and unique. When making an icon with like these do you start out with an idea of what you want it to end up like or do you just kind of figure it out as you go? What was your thought process in making icons like these : )

For the first one, it really was just fiddling around until I came up with something right. Most of the initial icons i got from the screen cap came up too cluttered, so I knew I needed to go for simple and I wanted to try something different than just covering half of the icon with a body, so I tried shrinking it to see how that looked. It was too simple, so I decided it really needed some text and the expression fit well enough with the character that the word came obvious to me.
For the second, it was really just a matter of the story I wanted to tell. I wanted something dramatic and numbing, and the expressions really needed to fit together. For this icon, clutter was okay because it needed to feel like it was in a chaotic enviroment. The position Lori was in made it seem like she was at a really low point, and Scott looking on all numb fit the feel for what I was going for, so it only seemed natural to have him hovering over Lori.
Mostly, I really just let the cap do the work for me. Sometimes I get an idea while I'm working on the cap, and other times I've already got an idea in mind for the story I want to tell, but no idea how I'm gunna tell it. It depends on the icon and what the set calls for.
Sorry that got so long. XD Let me know if you need any clarification!
