The first icon you mentioned is actually covered by this guide I wrote last AtM so you can get all the info you need about that coloring process there. There's even a very similar icon near the bottom that I talk about as well.
Regarding the second icon, I do actually have a full tutorial for that, and I'll get it put up as soon as I can. I'm sorry about the wait!

This icon is quite old so I no longer have the .psd file for it, but I did my best guess work for you:
- The light in the upper right hand corner is very likely the Diffuse Glow filter in Photoshop. I have a really, really old tutorial where I discuss it in a bit more depth here, but it also crops up in nearly every one of my tutorials because it is one of my favorite filters. If it wasn't that, then I would have used one of Photoshop's default/pre-loaded brushes to brush in a bit of light (and probably set it to screen or soft light depending ( ... )

1. How do you text? How do you text and complex at the same time? How do you text and complex and vibrant? I know you've written plenty about it but I was wondering if you have been using any different method lately. A font rec list would very much appreciated too. You use the most wonderful fonts, I've saved every single one you included in your tutorials but I'm greedy and I'd love to know if there are more because I suck at finding new ones and believe me I try real hard.
2. There's a lot of font combination and composition+text and textures+text and vibrant+text in your icons. I'm a flailing machine when it comes to your text, okay? I just like everything, you make icon candy, and I'd love to know more about your process because the results are fascinating.
Here are some examples for 1 and 2, just in case you were wondering what's going through my mind when I say icon candy and all that:
