It's July and that means it's time for round 6 of Ask the Maker! here at
icon_talkHere you'll get the chance to ask icon makers who sign up questions about their icons and other graphics. You can ask for tutorials, guides/"How to", or ask any other questions regarding their work so the makers can compile a Q&A post with the answers to all the questions they

And maybe tuts on these two? *I've been obsessing on their coloring*

I'm a little embarrassed by that second icon -- actually by how many layers it took to make. I did it all wrong about 6 times before I finally got the coloring I wanted!
But I can definitely write somethign up for the first icon. :)

Sets nu,mbered 1-13 are all textures I've made myself, usually from larger pieces that I've chopped up. A lot of the textures I made when I first started posting at contextures were using photos I'd taken and then manipulated.
For example:
= Snow Patrol concert (or mayb Green Day?)
= storm drainage grate
= the side of a building
But for the more recent stuff, which I think is what you're asking about, they're from pictures I've found on the net. I've held on to a lot of pictures for a long time, thinking I could do something with them, maybe make interesting icons with them, but I've come to realize that's not my style.
For sets 14-16, I've been digging through my treasure trove to find the really interesting stuff, then I crop and color them. I don't really think of them as "mine" which is why I don't ask for credit.
For example, these two textures
came from this picture.
These textures
are from posters which I've cropped, altered a bit, and colored.
I wish I could take credit for most of my recent stuff, but I honestly can't. They're images I found on the net, that I fiddled with. That's about it.

Don't sell yourself short, those globe textures are really good! And I wouldn't thought about that. The storm drainage grate texture is awesome and I would never imagined it came from there (when I figured it was that, I was surprised).
This gave so many ideas, I wasn't taking posters into account. I love knowing how people make things, so this was great!
