It's already turned off (it's never been enabled in this community actually), so I don't know if LJ has made some changes lately, or if there's some kind of glitch or bug.

But if you add ?style=mine like this, you will be able to see icon_talk on your own LJ layout if you prefer that:

I think actually it's actually LJ who did something, because it changed it in a couple of my communities so I had to go change it to off again.

Yeah, I figured it had to be LJ who changed something or other.

It was already turned off when I started trying and now I've tried turning it on and off several times and it doesn't do anything, but I'll keep trying in case it's a temporarily glitch of some sort.
