Hi fellow icon makers, it's 4 four months into 2013, and so I thought I would do a sort of progress meme things as we had one similar last year plus it would be nice to get some conversation going in this comm. So explain your favourite icons & techniques you have made, managed and loved also your worse and your areas for improvement

What are your 5-10 personal favourite icons you have made so far in 2013?
Honestly? I like about 99% of what I've posted thus far this year. So...that's probably a good thing.

The 4th and 10th icons from your favs are just beautiful. If you're pushing to improve on this you're gonna have some mind-blowing icons by the end of the year cause these are all already so well made!

I don't remember seeing #2 of your favourites before but it is totally gorgeous! The composition is so thoughtful and eye-catching which is one of the things that I love the most about your work (the thought that goes into your icons I mean).
Also I've noticed that everybody seems to be producing amazing stuff this year as well. It's definitely been a good year for iconning so far :)

Hasn't it? Everyone seems to be improving like crazy and pushing their comfort zones and everything. It's wonderful!

Of your fave ones I really loooove 4&6. What I find fascianting about 6 tho, is that usually things get blending IN the silohuette not opposite and it works really well here.

And I hear about both relying on background extraction and on using textures for lighting moste. (and seriously, that first iooon is perf!).

I wish I knew what the hell I was thinking when I made 6, but it was late at night and I was a little dark!crazy, you know? So I've got no idea! I'm glad people have responded so well to it though; it is one of my favorites (obviously, hah).

Shall we make a pact together to stop relying on our crutches so much?

i would. but i know myself too much and i'd break it the next time i icon (just because im making it LOL) im terrible like that lol.

I've started relying on background extraction a lot too, really trying not to do it all the time! It's just ended up like an easy way to clean things up, or work with a cap that doesn't have a good crop for me, etc. -- I should be a little more creative, lol.

I actually love the colors of your third worst icon!

I totally hear you! raiindust has been trying to push me towards making the backgrounds I add in more creative. So that's the direction I want to move in, but it is confusing. Good luck with diversifying your backgrounds as well. :D

Ack! That icon was such a rush job, and I really think it shows in how shoddy the colors were put together. *sigh* Thank you though!

to me, you're ever evolving - and I mean that in an absolutely positive way, of course.
if you add fake backgrounds to your repertoir as well I might just quit XD j/k j/k you keep being awesome, pls.
