So, yes, bank card fraud; fun, huh?

Someone got ahold of my debit card number somehow and bought $29.99 worth of something or another at a place or thing called "Offendale", which as far as I can tell is an adult/pornography web-ring. I went in to the bank the week before last when I saw the charge as pending, and they said they'd block the funds, but the billing agency had the opportunity to press the charge through, anyway.

Which they did, of course. So I went down last week to dispute the charge and fill out a reclaim form. This also involved getting my card deactivated and destroyed for safety purposes (which I can't disagree with; if someone has my card number, nothing's to stop them from continuing to use it if it still works). And my card expired this month, anyway, so it wasn't that big of a deal. They said I should get a new one within a week. Not having a card is pretty inconvenient, but, hey, at least it stopped me from spending frivolously.

A got a new card in the mail yesterday, which was good, because I needed groceries. I went to the store with Brim, and decided to activate the card on the way with my cell-phone. As I was typing the card number in, I realized that it was exactly the same as my old one, which I found to be a bit odd. If my old card was destroyed because someone had its number, what sense is there in making a new one with the same?

Anyway, the card won't activate, so the automated system transfers me to an operator. She tells me that the card number I'm trying to activate isn't in their system, and that the one assigned to my account is something different. At this point, I realize that the card I'm holding is not, in fact, the card sent to replace mine for its number having been stolen, but the one that would have been sent, anyway, because, as I said, my card would have very conveniently at this exact time expired. Ah, the irony. She tells me that the actually usable new card with a new number should arrive within a few days, so I bum money off of Brim for groceries. She owes me $50, anyway.

So, still no card! And I wanted to buy a new PDA, this weekend.

Well, the point of this likely quite boring entry is to say that, hey, look, I actually had a chance to write it. And that makes me feel less something or another negative, so good for that. For the first time in a couple years, I've gotten far enough behind on checking here that there's not much hope in catching up with over a week's worth of entries on the friend-page. So, not that I can really expect it, but if anyone has anything of note or going-ons to share, I'd be grateful for a filling-in!

Ack, I need sleep.

pda, bank, card
