This post is ongoing/subject to revision:
1. ditch the TV. I've been thinking about doing this for a while. Mostly my reasoning is that I settle into kind of a stupor when I "vege" out in front of the TV, where I could be focusing my energy and time elsewhere.
2. buy less/consume less. This one is a toughie because I live in an area that necessitates having a car. I've been thinking about ways to compensate. I've been looking into moving into a new apartment sometime this summer, if not this spring, and one alternative might be living with roommates again. Obviously this is subject to finding the right group of people to live with, but co-op style living has an appeal to me again. Also, lowering my superfluous purchases for the sake of minimalism. Backpacking through Asia has since instilled in me a less is more philosophy. eBooks and the Kindle appeal to me because it lowers the number of weighty books I take on. Lowering the number of things I have appeals because it makes me feel less tied down and more mobile for the future.
3. read more. I've been slacking a bit in the reading dept. so I'd like to pick up the pace a bit. I think averaging 1-2 books a week is reasonable.
4. keep learning Chinese. My Chinese books have been suffering from neglect. Time to hit the books again, my goal of fluency may seem far away, but it becomes more manageable/realistic if I persist in learning little chunks at a time.
Will revise this soon. What are your new years resolutions?
