I pulled myself out of bed this morning at around noon (shut up it's early for me) and we all Had Tea with some of my dad's old friends from his art class (of which he was humorously the only male) in a very fancy place. The food there was delicious; we smelled it still even hours later upon returning into our car because of the packs of takeout we had packed up for later. Their tea was flavourful and piping hot, as tea should be, and they provided my favourite flavour.
Afterwards the family bopped around in an unfamiliar Costco, which is apparently new? I'm not sure. I'm not sure if I'm ashamed to say I shelled out money for a Princess Tiana pillow. Shut up she is awesome. After which we spent some time in the car while my dad bought a new window.
When we got home we (being my sister and I) watched a new movie we'd gotten in a Blockbuster Going Out of Business sale, called
Azur & Asmar: The Princes' Quest. It was an animated movie with raving reviews that I had not heard of, so of course I had to get it, especially since for some reason it was priced so lowly. Wow, that movie was really cool! It had a storytelling style that we almost never see in movies nowadays, because the shots were very still and you often see the characters in profile. It made me think of when I read the old fairy tales, with the plot and character design style that is simple, relatable, and satisfying. Turns out it's French, which is probably why it's not very well-known here. It's also not as fast-paced as movies I'm used to watching, but that was certainly not against its favor. I recommend it if you guys are curious!
Afterwards I curled up on my bed and finished off the rest of
Heroes of the Valley, and boy did I get a shocker worthy of Jonathan Stroud! If I have the same English teacher next quarter as last quarter, I will have to tell her about this book and how it deals with the subject we discussed previously, and what part it plays in traditions and legends. There were like two plot twists within the last ten pages of the book! This author is just brilliant at placing climaxes at the very end of books and he does it very very well. When my brain finally woke out of its awesome-induced haze it recalled the Spira world of FFX!
Now my eye itches and I wish I knew why. Also Tarrant's choice in tea flavor is pretty nice but it lacks the subtlety that I am used to, haha. You crazy Englishmen and your strange tastes.
The Princes' Quest。
Heroes of the Valley。
