Because of Cloud.

He disappeared from Vatheon for a little while ago. Turns out he went back to Radiant Garden while he was gone. And while he was there, he didn't remember ever being here. Not til' he got pulled back.

I guess that means if we go home, the memories of this place aren't really gone. Just ... sleeping.

Course it was. They have some plan for us or they wouldn't bother keeping us alive and comfortable.
