Yeah--I was shocked the first time I heard someone say 'I hate Seisohen!" but now I kind of understand why people feel that way. I still think it's beautiful, in a thoroughly depressing kind of way (you're right, there are three kisses--I realized this after posting. Now I want to go watch them....).
There are a lot of sunsets in Seisohen, aren't there? I never thought of that before....
There's a scene in the director's cut (which just got released sometime in the spring, I think) in which Kaoru essentially proposes to Kenshin, and she gives a little speech explaining her motivation--"Since you're living for other people, I want to spend my life living for you...if it's a sin for you to be happy, then I will take the blame"--and how she knows this is what will make her happy, and Kenshin agrees on the condition that he can see her smile. And then there are cuts of various scenes--their wedding, Kenji's birth, their life together--up until the point when Kenji is a toddler and Kenshin says he feels the need to go out and help people again. And somehow the fact that Kaoru knew exactly what she was doing when she chose Kenshin, that she was aware and prepared to make that sacrifice, makes the whole situation less upsetting for me. I actually started crying when I saw it the first time (I already owned the other cut, but rented the director's cut because it's listed as a full thirty minutes longer). I guess Kaoru seems less defeated and Kenshin seems like less of a jerk for leaving. And it makes me happy.
Charis needs to go get a Kenshin fix now....
Aaaaand, looking at these again, I decided I need 19 (I know these are icons and not bases, but would it be all right if I added text to this? I'm not sure I want to, but if I thought of the perfect quote I might), and I was wondering if you had 24 as a base?
O_O ZOMG i need to see that director's cut thing like NOW... O_O i wanna see the wedding!! (*ponders how to get it without having to DL*)
i never thought kenshin was a jerk, not really. i understand that it's kenshin and he has to go and help people and whatnot... that's just who he is. turning his back on a war to live peacefully would be like superman saying "sorry, i can't rescue you right now, i got a date with lois!" @_@x so yeah, i don't blame him. kenshin's ok in my book (he could've written to his son, though, once in a while. maybe then kenji-kun wouldn't have resented him so much ~_~ baka kenshin!). it's kaoru the one who bothers me-- she just about turned into tomoe and it freaks me out. gah. nothing like series!kaoru.
i wonder if the sunset thing was on purpose... sort of a "since the sun is setting over their lives..." thing #_# i don't know. i only knew all of these icons ended up being orange and it's so not funny >.< i prefer having a little more diversity.
it's ok if you want to add text. at least you asked me ^.^ it only ticks me off when people do it without permission and then claim the whole icon as their own, which is just wrong. but just adding text is fine. and as for the base of 24, here you go--
The director's cut is definitely worth watching--I had to run out and buy it for myself, so now I have a useless copy of the original cut.
The change in Kaoru is what really bothered me--since, after seeing Seisohen and not knowing what it was, my brother got me to read the manga because "there's a chick in it who can't cook and yells a lot and hits people with sticks. She's just like you!" I liked Kaoru before I fell for Kenshin, and now I 'ship them. Funny how that works ;) But I was kind of inclined to blame Kenshin for it, when I let myself analyze the situation, but the extra scenes in the director's cut makes it somehow better. I dunno. It's hard to verbalize.

Anyway, thanks for the icons!
