a doggy rescue story.

so, the other day....i pulled out of the driveway on my way to work, when all of a sudden i catch glimpse of this small dog running across the very busy street we live next to. and all i could think was, 'ohmygod! i'm going to watch this thing get killed.' so i watched to see if anyone was chasing it or pulling over for it. nothing. there was no way i could just sit there and watch this happen in slow motion. so, i pulled my car over to the side and got out. sure enough, this happens to be THE CUTEST PUG I HAVE EVER SEEN! it wasn't your typical pug. she was kind of leggy and skinny, and had a petite little head. it looked kinda like this (not actually her):

my worse fear was that she might spook and dart into the street. so i got down on my knees and held out my hand like i had something in it. she came to me immediately. the second she got within petting distance, i snatched her up and put her in my car. she panicked at first, but soon settled onto my lap........and then, my heart just melted!!!! at one point, she put her front paws on my shoulders and was just standing up, facing me- sniffing my face, sizing me up. she was like a little monkey person. i wanted to eat her up!

since she didn't have any tags, i drove her to the pasadena humane society....where i was assured that i could adopt her if her owners didn't come for her.

4 hours later, they turned up.

i was relieved for her. she was obviously somebody's baby. someone's pride and joy. (hopefully they'll get smart and put a collar on her, or micro-chip her)........but on the inside, i was crushed. i secretly wanted her all to myself. she was gentle and perfect.

& THAT'S when i decided: I WANT A PUG! so i've shifted from wanting a brussels griffon to a pug (just like you, nicole!).
i'm keeping my eyes glued to the rescue sites. i'm craving one like some women crave a child.

i am smitten.
