patty hall, the author of the new raggedy anne and andy books, gave me a great idea. she mentioned that there was a time in her life when her step-father was very ill in the hospital, very near to death...and she would bring him the unpublished versions of her books to test out on him- and she said you could just SEE his face relax as she read to him aloud.
and that gave me the idea of bringing just one or two books with me to read to my grandmother who is at a nursing home right now. she'll probably only be there for a couple weeks longer...& even though it's sad to think that she's in need of nursing care, it is a relief to know that the help is there if she needs it. the important thing is, she's recovering well from her brain-surgery...and the idea of bringing her a little laughter right now makes my heart feel good.
but which book to bring? there's so many! any picturebook suggestions for future visits?
