so this week's main aim is to register with temp agencies and find a job.

Anyone got any recommendations / ones to avoid?

The ones who actually offered me work (even part time which was what I wanted and pretty good!) were office angels - they all tend to let you come in, fill in the forms and then get you back to do an assessment (computer skills, typing etc although they're quite lenient because they're often one of those silly ones where you don't actually use the programme and if you use shortcuts etc you're incredibly slow!)
