journey in to work this morning was odd.

traffic outside normal bus stop was solid so i cut across to the alternative route stop in the hope it'd be quicker. there was a bus waiting at that stop which was unusual - it was empty and the driver was talking to someone in a high vis jacket who worked for the bus company and seemed to be explaining the route to him. the bus had a small paper notice on the windscreen informing that it was a 91 - the bus i needed to catch. after a short while the supervisor got off and asked the 3 of us standing at the stop where we were going - first lady said King's Cross so he told her she could get on and i said Euston and was told could get on. so the bus heads off on it's normal route which is very busy with traffic but shorter than the other route - but the diriver doesn't stop to pick up any more passengers! so the other lady and i had the bus to ourselves the whole journey - after she got off near King's Cross i was on the bus by myself! i got off before getting all the way to Euston coz the traffic was so bad that i realised it's be quicker to walk.
Was a bit disconcerting that the driver didn't seem entirely sure where he was going and the other lady on the bus had to drirect him round to King's Cross - in the end she told him to follow one of the other buses!
I was still 20 mins late but it could have been a lot more (although as Dave said last week - I can't really be late coz i don't have a contract!)

traffic is so bad because huge sections of the tube especially to the north of the city are still shut - the whole circle line, large section of piccadilly, district and hammersmith lines - so more people are trying to drive i think and lots more are trying to get buses than normal.
there were crowds of people outside King's Cross St Pancras trying to pack onto buses and significantly more people walking along Euston Rd than normal.

EDIT: well it wasn't just me - took Steve nearly an hour and 15mins to get in, he ended up getting off bus at Mornington Cresent and walking the rest of the way!

buses, work
