I feel like I've been initiated now--I've seen my first curse, and I was even affected by it a little. But surely curse is too dramatic a word for something like that? Actually, I enjoyed it. Seeing people adapt to different communications was...enlightening ( Read more... )

as harmless as...something dangerous, aftermath

...going back in time to see him first is perfectly acceptable! Good help is hard to find.

I'm a diplomat. British Foreign Ministry. I travel a lot, and make nice with people.

[...and kill them. No, wait.]

Huh. I guess you wouldn't be interested in public relations for a small company then.

[Everyone needs an assassin...or two. Don't they?]

Of course not; I have far too many other opportunities in a place like this.

That was a joke. I can't really be that picky here.

Most of us can't. I'm Tony Stark. I have a company that deals primarily in mechanical inventions, alternative power and weapons. Occasionally I knock out the power and blow things up. Accidentally. How do you think you can help me?

[Actually, that sounds mildly interesting. Maybe he won't end up killing anyone after all. For a while.

...and until he does, it might be a good idea to keep close enough to the weapons to know what they do.]

I can make you look better when you blow things up.

[This isn't in fact anything he's been trained in, but he's nothing if not flexible.]

And that is precisely what I'm looking for.

Now details. The pay is better than average. You've got full benefits and I suspect as a PR person you're used to this last one; when I say it's time to work, it's time to work. To balance it out I don't give a damn when your regular work hours are as long as you show up when I specifically say 'we've got a crisis. I need you now' even if now is three in the morning.

You'd report to me of course and to my personal assistant, Natalie Rushman.

[That sounds surprisingly familiar. What is it they say about air traffic control and espionage? Long periods of waiting, followed by short periods of frantic activity. It must apply to public relations too.]

That will be fine, Mr. Stark.

My name is Jack Simon.
