Soooooo... yeah, I'm alive, unlike Molly (read previous post), but anywho... after she died, we searched and searched for new puppies and voila! We found another one. He seemed perfect, peaceful and everything nice. Oh yeah, we were soooooo wrong! He was a lil brat, a devil on four legs! We understand that he is a puppy, puppies are hyper and yada ( Read more... )

Wow, that SO cool that you're getting your Chi too and from the same place! Have you seen any pics of the newborns yet? Do you have a name in mind?

I suggest you get "Chihuahuas for dummies" I bought it and it's a GREAT book. It covers every single aspect of Chis/living with them.

About potty training... I trained mine with puppy pads (you can get them at any pet store), a crate and the clicker. If you don't want to use puppy pads, you can use newspaper or a litter box. Every night, I'd put him in his crate with the door closed and whenever he felt like going, he'd cry. So I'd take him out of the crate and put him right on the pad, wait for him until he was done and praise him with "happy" words. Also, repeat the same word every time you put him on the pad, I use "pee pee time" but you can use anything and say his name. Try placing the puppy pad always in the same place. If your house is big, place several pads around your house, just in case he doesn't make it to the main pad. Place the main pad near his food bowls.

If he doesn't cry, just take him out of the crate and put him on the pad as soon as you wake up. Do the same as soon as he wakes up from every nap, finishes eating and after playing.

Of course it's not going to be an instant thing and accidents will happen, so if you catch him peeing in a different place other than the pad, just clap (I use the clicker instead of clapping), pick him up and put him on the pad, even if he's done. Don't ever yell at him or he will fear potting in front of you. Chis are very smart and never forget what they learn.

If you want to train him to go out, just do the same, but take him out, always in the same spot instead of putting him on the pad. Be constant and most important, patient =P

Oh, and Jonah was...7 weeks old when I got him.

Good luck and congrats! :D
