Fall in the South Wedge

Nov 20, 2007 16:41

I moved into an area in the city of Rochester called the South Wedge. It's a working class area with history that traces back to the late 19th century. It is full of old houses, little niche cafes and is one area that in my opinion truly helps to define Rochester.

I didn't realize how much I loved it until I lived here.

I was going to make lunch today and remembered we were out of Red Hot. I use it almost every day. So I was starting to feel like I couldn't consider having a day without it. So I pulled my coat on and headed out.

The first step out onto my front porch made me feel like taking out the camera.

The view from my front door.
My house is crammed back behind two others, but it gives a nice private feeling to it.

We have alternating on-street parking here. It's a huge pain.
That's my little blue monster. The very spot it is parked in is where I have been parked for all 4 tickets I've gotten since we moved here.

We live two houses away from a meat distribution plant.

I love this big blue church on the corner.
Mike's dad saw Elton John play in the basement of this church in the 70's.

The South Wedge diner and Peter's Candies... both owned by the sweetest man.
He has been in the chocolate-making business for over 45 years.
I have never been to the diner, but I do like to buy gifts from his candy shop.

This picture shows two landmarks in the area.
The Highland Park Diner and The Cinema.

Upon looking for some links to landmarks in the area, I came across this book with images and history of the area... at Target! I'm sure they don't sell it at a local Target here, but I'd be interested to see what the book is like.
