Since I had to make a copy of some of our records (a birth certificate and Social Security card, to be precise) to complete some paperwork, I made a trip to the bank yesterday to get the items out of our safety deposit box. I hear you. I really wanted to frame my ketubah and hang it in the bedroom, but Hershy explained how it isn't done for all kinds of halachic and cultural reasons. It means so much to me though. I'm the first generation since my great grandma to have a kosher ketubah. :)

That's amazing. No wonder you want to hang it up on the wall.

I'm curious, what was Hershy's explanation as to why you don't put it on the wall? I just heard about this recently, and the person who mentioned it didn't know why.

Well, sometimes he says laughs at the middle eastern "Ostentatiousness" of framing one's documents, and once he said it was considered "bad mazal" to even have one's ketubah on hand. Some sort of cultural superstition that if you have your ketubah close by, you "jinx" yourself with ayin hara or something. Can never get a really straight answer beyond a few shrugs!!!
