32 - Video - But that was when I ruled the world.

[ Steph seems to be in a pretty good mood today. Wonder why... She's grinning at the screen as she sets up her iPod so the headphones are close to the microphone and turns the volume all the way up. Not earsplitting for the network, but loud enough that she can listen too. ]

Okay, I know this one was on the radio a lot back in the day, but I also ( Read more... )

I've never heard of Coldplay.

[Which isn't saying much, considering she lives in a tent for a good portion of each year.]

They're a band from the 90s. This is my favorite song by them.

The year's 1995 for me. I'm not exactly the most up-to-date with this sort of thing.

It's not bad, though.

They might not have hit the radios for you yet, I'm not sure when exactly they did.

Interested in more music?

Sure, why not.

Let's see, what else have I got...

That's kind of pretty.

[She's more interested in how Steph's playing this music and suspects it has something to do with the mention of iPod speakers, since she doesn't see a CD player or tape deck.]

What's an iPod?

[ She holds up a purple iPod nano so she can see. ]

It's like a tiny computer that holds music.

[She looks mildly intrigued, and pretty impressed. Not every Tom, Dick, and Steph has a personal computer in 1995.

Ah, the age of technology.]

That's amazing. How does it work?

I don't know the technical stuff, but it's pretty user friendly. The headphone jack is here. [ Steph shows her where her headphones are connected, then continues to flip through some menus so Sarah can see. ]

Neat, right?

Oh! Sorry, I don't think we've actually met. I'm Stephanie Brown.

It's certainly more practical than a stack of compact discs.

I'm Sarah Harding.

[Pause, then a little emphasis, because please don't call her Dr. Harding or "Comrade" like some people.]

Sarah.

I just came aboard a few days ago.

Nice to meet you, Sarah. If you don't mind me asking, warden or inmate?

I'm a warden.

...

You seem pretty harmless, but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask you the same?

I'll take that as a compliment. I'm a warden too. But you can never be too careful. Sometimes inmates try to pose as wardens when they first show up. Nothing dangerous, it seems like, but worth noting.

[She laughs.]

So how do you know if I'm lying or not?

[ Warden Filter ]

Well there's one easy way to find out.

[ /Filter ]

I like giving people the benefit of the doubt. There's not much point in pretending to be a warden and they get found out pretty quick.
