006. UPDATE - Love for us both

Mar 09, 2017 00:19

Hi there, guys!

It's been a while right? I've been busy with class projects (as usual) and, honestly, there hasn't been much going on in my life besides art school & my rediscovered love for Tomb Raider (I never really stopped loving it shhh). In unrelated news, I'm currently rewatching the first two seasons of River Monsters and *accidentally* skipped sleep last night because of it and am now properly rethinking my life priorities (it's pretty much my sanity VS angling shows at this point hmm). So that's that.

BUT what I really came here to post about is Eurovision. I've been watching the Eurovision contest every year since I can remember, mostly for the kicks but I can get pretty serious about it if the occasion calls for that. And this year really calls for that.

Yes, so a couple of days ago we elected our national contestant for Eurovision and (as surprising as it may sound, given our extremely embarrassing and downright shitty contestant history over the years) I'm so proud of this year's pick, honestly, I couldn't wish for a better one.

His name is Salvador (which literally means savior, how ironic is that? lol) and he is a quiet, unassuming, insanely talented guy. I am completely smitten. He's such a simple guy if a bit quirky on stage, which some might find weird but I find endearing for some reason. People have said they've seen (and I'm quoting) "people sleeping in doorways better presented than him", I like to think that's part of his charm, the way he doesn't seem to care and just pours it all into the song, that's my boy. He's underdressed, underproduced and unpolluted, he's raw. To me, he's the real deal.

The song is called "Amar pelos Dois", Love for two/ Love for us both. It's classy and warm and easy and nostalgic and meaningful, it's everything a song should be and it made me cry okay. It's also a ballad, which is not usually my cup of tea, but it's also such a powerful one in a really subtle, sensible away. I was blown away by the lyrics and the emotion he put into them, I have no words.

I'll say no more, you'll just have to listen to it to know what I mean.
((high-five me if it reminds you of Disney's Lady and the Tramp))

If some day someone asks about me,
Say that I lived to love you.
Before you came along, I only existed,
I was tired and had nothing to give.

My dear, listen to my prayers.
I want you to return, and that you'll love me again,
I know that - all alone - you don't love yourself,
Maybe you can learn to do so again, bit by bit.

My dear, listen to my prayers.
I want you to return, and that you'll love me again,
I know that, all alone, you don't love yourself,
Maybe you can learn to do so again, bit by bit.

If your heart doesn't want to give in,
If it doesn't want to feel passion, if it doesn't want to suffer,
Without having to plan what awaits us afterward,
My heart can love for us both

here you go *hands tissue*

So, anyways, while I haven't listened much to the other entries (except for Italy, YOU GO ITALY), I'm really hoping Salvador gets the recognition *I think* he deserves. Not because he's Portuguese or because I want Portugal to win (tbqh I haven't bothered with my country's songs for the longest time, I'll be the first to say we suck) but because he's a genuine little fragile flower that needs to be protected at all costs, I haven't seen this level of honesty in music in a long time and I really don't want this flower to wither u feel.

Aaaand, that's all, for now, folks o/
