I really enjoy flatironing my hair. I enjoy the heat close to my head in the winter, the silky feel of the hair in my hands, and watching my hair change instantly from frizzy, or wavy or curly into smooth straight strands. It wasn't always like this, which is partly why I appreciate it now. About a year ago now my mom bought me this Liquid Keratin treatment that you do yourself about once a month, though I do it less often than that. It's not a straight perm. It just gets rid of the stubborn frizz and makes it possible for me to get my hair to do what I want for once in my life. When I let my hair curl now, it actually looks nice, and I can even take my dry curly hair and make it flat if I want! You probably have no idea how impressive that is to me. It NEVER used to do that.
I love that now for the most part, my hair is what I want it to be, instead of completely at the mercy of the weather and luck. Yeah, it gets slightly more fluffy in really high humidity, and I still fear the rain directly on my head, but it's not the frizzy cloud it used to be. I don't have a halo anymore, even if I decide to have curls. Now I can actually have and maintain the bangs I wanted since I was in first grade and loved Sailor Moon. It's also been a year since I had them cut on my spring break in New York, and I still love them. I kind of want to go back to that hair place by the Tokidoki store and thank the stylist for helping me finally take the plunge, haha. It's not really a big deal to most people, I'm sure, but most people reading this journal know how many times I've really changed my hairstyle in my life, and that wasn't a lot. Especially if we don't count my hair color adventures in high school.
I want to try some of the curly gyaru hairstyles, but I must confess I don't really know how to use a curling iron. I tried it the other day and couldn't get it to do anything! lol. It's also been a lifelong wish to be able to French braid my own hair. I am still trying to get the hang of that too.
