Our orchestra concert went surprisingly well, considering we were missing two percussionists and had to cover parts at the last minute. I am really happy that we have a solid group of people who are all capable of playing their parts. We really haven't had that since I joined...mostly it's been me and maybe one other person at any time, and then we haphazardly get together some mediocre people just in time for the concert. I went out for drinks with Dorothy and Audrey after we packed up all the equipment, and it was really fun to spend time with girls my age who have so many common interests. We talked about all kinds of things, like how John Cage is a hilarious asshole, the Beatles and the influence of our parents on our tastes in music, bullshit postmodernist art and how funny that is, and brainstorming about composing a work for 13 percussionists with a zodiac theme. I don't really get to spend a lot of time talking about this kind of stuff, and I had a really great time. Dorothy felt guilty that I had to drive her back into Philadelphia, but it was totally worth it for me.
I was invited to take a second interview for Bandai as a product developer. It's going to be at a career fair in Boston next weekend for Japanese-English bilinguals, and I'm really excited! I need to study, and buy a suit jacket. I really want this.
This week I'm playing in a community theater production of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The show itself is not really so hot; it's got every cliche of musical theater writing in it and it seems really boring, but that's not really my problem. My part is a mix of xylophone and bell parts written for someone playing an electronic keyboard, so it's not easy to play at all. It's also a pain in the neck to get there every day because it takes me an hour and a half to drive there. But it's fun because Mika and Greg are in it with me, and Monday was a lot of fun with the goofing around. My other friend Matt will be covering some of the shows for Greg, and I haven't seen him since the summer either, so that's really cool.
I hate driving in New Brunswick. I want to go up there to get this library book about business Japanese, and I've been putting it off every day this week because it's so stressful and takes so much time to get there, and it hardly feels worth it for just one book. I'll just go tomorrow. ugh.
Except for NB, though, driving is getting less traumatic every day. At first I was really nervous about driving on the freeway, but I'm getting used to it and go 80 like everyone else without it bothering me. It really sucks when my iPod runs out of batteries though, because the only part of the radio that still works anymore is the tape player and its adapter. So it's either singing to the Beatles, or nothing.
I'm still playing The World Ends With You, probably because it hasn't stopped being fun yet. I almost never do this but I'm kind of trying to collect all the pins in the game. I'm not sure what's gotten into me.
I also want a nap. so tired. u_u
