I'm sitting here on my loveseat, eating a wonderful concoction of raw salmon and fish eggs on a bed of japanese mayonnaise, onions and noodles. I may only have a month left in Japan, but I don't have time to think about that now :)
I've been craving a bit of the good ole American pop-culture injection that people around the world take intravenously daily (especially here in Japan), and have been surfing all the best in gray matter candy. It was a slap in the face when I found out there were lots of sites like MTV, Showtime, etc, that you can't access outside the US! Way to make me feel more like a foreigner ... But it's Summer finally, and the blockbuster anticipation back in the US is huge in Nihon too. I've been edgy recently with a serious lack of comedy (the Japanese have no identifiable sense of humor so far as we foreigners can see, outside of making fun of them in our wait lines ~_^) I need Chappelle, Family Guy, Drawn Together... something more tangible than Japanese slap stick! Are they even making any more Drawn Together??
Regardless, I've been able to bury myself in Star Wars III hype (which is apparently shamelessly kicking box office ass back home, but won't make it to Japan until the traditional Japanese SW month, July), Harry Potter rumors out the bumbum ... are they really remaking HERBIE and DUKES OF HAZARD ?!?! My gawd! I've seen pictures of the PS3 finally--it's gross how much of my time that thing will soon annihilate. HOWEVER, the Batman Begins WORLD PREMIER will be nowhere else besides HERE AT THE EXPO, EAT! IT! BI0TCHES! I've gotten new System of a Down on my iPod (yeeeah!), so I should be able to feel American until the end of the week at least.
American culture may be all the rage, but as usual, our President is not. Hehe, luckily for us, being Republican wasn't a requirement for working at the Expo (something we like to remind all out english-speaking guests ^_^), and it pays off. Japanese regularly laugh at the message from Bush hanging on our wall, and I've been asked by Japanese and European guests alike "So, why did YOU want to go to war?"

It's kinda embarrassing, actually. I wish I could tell some guests I'm actually Canadian, and just happen to be working here on occasion. On a similar topic, a random young Canadian last night on the train out to Tip's party (our #1 Ops man's bar's 7th year anniversary!) sat next to me to enjoy a bit of english conversation. I found out from him that there is actually a much-despised conservative party in Canadia, along with such gems as a sex party, a weed party, and a no-work party. Yeah Canada! I don't remember his name, but he's 18 yrs old, wants to work in cutting edge bio-technology research (=awesome) (the fun cloning stuff we're not allowed to mess with in the states, btw) (reminds me of Wilhelm in that respect!) and is backpacking alone in Japan for 3 weeks! Good luck, guy!
And with that, it's back to 3 days of non-expo indulgence, woot!
