[oo5] Monday: Character Biblography: Five Quotes

'A cousin who sparkles a lot and gets carried away with things. We wish he knew the difference between sticking out and just being a nuisance.' - The King of All Cosmos, about Dipp

Out of all of her cousins, Ichigo probably likes Dipp the most.

She understands him -- she gets him, and feels like he probably knows her pretty well, too. They both know how important being noticed -- being recognized -- really is, especially in such a large family. With so many cousins, it's hard to stand out sometimes.

And it isn't like Dipp has the advantage of some unique physical feature. His head isn't shaped differently, like Foomin's towers or Miso's or Han's bowls. He isn't tall like Odeko or Paula; he doesn't resemble a donut or mushroom or snowman; he just looks like your normal, everyday Royal Cousin.

There's a reason Ichigo works so hard to maintain her sweet strawberry figure. She hasn't always had it; it took some time for the idea to even occur to her, let alone carefully cultivate it.

So Dipp uses his clothes to stand out, sparkling and shining just like a cluster of stars. Annoying as that can get at times, she certainly can't fault him for his ingenuity.

'From the side, he looks exactly like the Prince seen from the back. Not even We can tell them apart.' - The King of All Cosmos, about Johnson

She doesn't understand copycats like Johnson.

It isn't like the Prince is especially fashionable -- she likes green, but green and purple together, of all things? Green and red look much better.

And despite their Uncle's silly claims, none of them could really pass as the Prince. They all look too... different. Slip's so thin and flighty; Odeon has his face on his antenna; Pu's got leaves growing around it like a flower; Kenta has four legs and a longer body; and Johnson's head looks like it's been twisted around, his face on the end turned forward. None of them could serve as a convincing double -- the only one fooled is the King, and with his wife around to set him straight...

So why bother even trying to mimic the Prince? They don't have any enemies, and it's not like they could ever replace the heir apparent. Only their scatterbrained Uncle might mistake them for his son, and don't they have enough problems being recognized without actually trying to confuse him?

It just doesn't make any sense to her.

'Very fashion conscious.' - The King of All Cosmos, about Foomin

Foomin has issues with fashion.

Nothing too horrible, mind; it's simply that her... uniquely-shaped head poses some problems when it comes to accessorizing. Things that will fit most of the Royal Cousins don't look quite right when she tries them on. Hats don't balance well, or look strange lodged between her twin towers... and that's if they fit.

Ichigo's helped her sort out her look several times. It's mainly a matter of finding a match, so she can wear things on both sides of her head and balance things out. Still a bit strange when you get into things like giraffe hats, but there's only so much you can do about that...

Helping her does wonders for her self-confidence. Really, it's so nice to know her more distinctive cousins have their own share of problems.

'She always messes things up, but it's hard to hate her because she's so cute!' -- The King of All Cosmos, about Honey

There's nothing 'cute' about Honey.

She's entirely too pink, and Ichigo's a huge fan of the color. Pink and red are her favorite colors ever, but Ichigo-chan's smart enough to recognize that there's limits. Certain shades just don't compliment each other, plus there's the issue of having too much on, to the point where it's overwhelming or just plain irritating... especially if you chose a particularly poor hue to cover yourself in.

Plus, she wears yellow with it. Bright. Lemon. Yellow. And shockingly bright pink at the tips of her swollen head, which only draws attention to how misshapen and lumpy it is.

Some of her cousins benefit from their unusual, distinctive shapes; Honey's unfortunate enough to look deformed. Like it's been pumped full of air, then twisted and tweaked til it was stretched and smashed up, resulting in those huge, round lumps. Some people call those 'pigtails', or claim it looks like a candy wrapper; Ichigo thinks the term 'barbell' is more accurate.

No, Honey isn't cute at all. And to hear the King, of all people, claiming that... well, that just proves his poor taste.

'She's every jealous, and always wants to be the center of attention.' -- The King of All Cosmos, about Ichigo

Her uncle is a fool.

The King of All Cosmos is a rambling, easily distracted, simple-minded fool. The head that wears the crown is only heavy due to its sheer girth; Ichigo often suspects that there's naught but air whistling through that massive circus-print cylinder. He relies on children to fix his many mistakes -- for all the power the Dashing Prince is set to inherit someday, she doesn't envy him. Much. Were it not for his wife and child, if not for the massive extended family that makes up his court, she suspects the entire universe would have fallen apart long before now.

To hear him describe her as jealous...

The mere thought is laughable. That he, of all people, could accuse her of that -- Him. The Royal Buffoon. The bumbler who acts as if everyone on Earth is one of his fans, and his alone -- who so often refuses to consider a request unless those entreating him offer up some compliments. Or anything he can twist into a compliment, one of the few reliable functions of his addled mind.

To think he looks at her and (when he recognizes her as an individual rather than confusing her for another) sees her not as a cute, popular little princess, but as some envious little brat...

She doesn't know what terrifies her more: that he thinks she's just a self-centered fool, or that he just might be able to see past her sweetness and pick out the worst parts of her. The parts she'd rather not acknowledge exist.
