 Hear (Here), My Heart
Nakajima Yuto/Ohgo Suzuka
This is based off a quote I received quite some time ago. OhgoJima seemed perfect for this.
And I’m still on a high seeing the clear Horikoshi sports festival papapics. The pair’s standing less than five feet from each other.
It has been a long time since I wrote a fic. I really miss writing.

“Suzuka-chan, look!”

Ohgo smiles as Nakajima bounces up to her, hair fluttering wildly in the wind, a digital SLR hanging off his neck, and an impossibly large smile on his face.

He immediately shoves the viewfinder to the girl as he plopped on the bench beside her.

“It was so beautiful and I was reminded of you so I took a picture. I think you’d like it.”

Ohgo beams appreciatively as she looks at a butterfly, its violet wings contrasting prettily with the green and lime of leaves.

She then blushes as she registers his certain reference of her to the gorgeous creature captured in the moving light.

“It’s very nice,” Ohgo softly says. “You’ve gotten so much better in taking pictures.”

“W-well…”

Ohgo quite likes the redness of Nakajima’s cheeks as it betrayed his current embarrassment.

“What? It is true,” the girl teases as she bumps her shoulders with his.

“Not as good as you,” Nakajima teases right back and they laugh at their antics.

As their laughter dies down, the boy looks up at the sky and says.

“You know…I…I think I’m in love with this girl. I don’t know how to act on these feelings though.”

Ohgo thinks her heart suddenly plummeted to her stomach and is breaking in a hundred (maybe even a million) pieces. She feels tears gathering up in her eyes right after. Not wanting them to fall, she leans her head back and also looks up at the sky.

“I think you’ll figure it out in time.”

Nakajima turns to her. “Aren’t you going to ask me who it is?”

Ohgo just makes a noncommittal sound.

The next time Nakajima brings up the topic is during the sports festival. The whole class is gathered on one side of the field by the benches, about to cheer on Sakamoto in the track meet.

“If I show her an album full of her pictures, would she think I’m weird?” Nakajima asks as he arranges the white bandana on his head.

Ohgo burst out laughing. “She’d definitely think you’re a stalker.”

“Well, that too,” the boy grimaces. “I just can’t help it though. It’s like my lens are looking for her.”

Ohgo smiles (it seemed sad, Nakajima frowned in his head). “She’s that pretty?”

“She’s pretty and gorgeous and cute and so much more.”

“Hmmm…lucky girl,” Ohgo murmurs before she focuses her eyes on the game before her, waving her flag as a start.

It is nearly eight in the evening and they are the last ones to go. But them cleaning up the room after a cultural festival could take time. Especially since it was suspiciously only the two of them who were free.

“Come on, I’ll take you home,” Nakajima says as Ohgo slid on her jacket.

“Huh? No need.”

“Don’t be stubborn,” Nakajima cuffs the side of her head. “It’s already dark. It can be dangerous.”

Ohgo looks at his determined expression before sighing. “Fine. Whatever you say.”

They arrive at the train station in no time, conversation flowing freely. Ohgo wanted to pay for her ticket but Nakajima forcefully slides her wallet back in her bag.

“You can pay for my fare the next time.”

Ohgo rolls her eyes but giggles. “Such a gentleman, I see.”

Nakajima does a little bow. “Especially for you.”

They sit side by side on the train and make little talk. Nakajima suddenly steers the conversation to the girl he likes.

Ohgo wishes he would just stop doing that. Every time, she feels her heart breaking. He is her close friend though, so she lets it slide.

“Suzuka-chan, if I confess to her, you think she’ll accept me?”

Ohgo sighs loudly. “You know what Yuto-kun? I really would like to give you an accurate answer but I can’t. I’m sorry.”

It is as if Nakajima suddenly realizes that she is uncomfortable.

“I’m sorry if I seem to nag about this Suzuka-chan.”

Ohgo smiles and lightly shakes her head. “It’s okay, I guess. I know you just want to help ease the load of your feelings. These things can get pretty overwhelming I suppose; especially with no one to talk to.”

“Thank you though for still listening to me,” Nakajima says as they both stand up and prepare to exit.

The girl flashes a peace sign before replying, “Just fulfilling my role as the awesome friend.”

The street going to her house is not exactly that dark. It was enough though to make both teens jumpy.

“Aren’t you going to ask me about her?” Nakajima suddenly stops in his tracks. The girl visibly flinched.

Ohgo gives a resigned shrug. They are already in front of her house. Might as well get over it and just rush inside to her room.

“Fine then. Yuto-kun, who is she?”

Nakajima smiles (suddenly he seemed so nervous, Ohgo noted) and gently places an album in her hands.

“It’s you Suzuka-chan.”

“What if the person you secretly love tells you that he already found the one that he would like to be with forever? Would you be brave enough to ask who it is? Or would you bear the pain not knowing it’s you after all…”
