Because I was strangely inspired by cosplayers of IchiRuki. Can you blame me?
Title: Amethyst
Rating: PG/K+
Disclaimer: Kubo-san, I'm borrowing just for a little while. But that doesn't mean I own them.
Notes: Just for the record, I love Renji.
Frankly, the thought of actually doing this made him sick. He wanted to ask someone for advice, he really did. His friends would have a fit, he just knew it. Tatsuki and Orihime, er… well, that would have been too awkward. And as for his dad… no, just no.
It was like jumping into Hueco Mundo without Zangetsu or something. He was all alone on this one.
Ichigo shoved his hand in his pocket as he flung his school bag over his shoulder. He watched as the petite figure kept five steps in front of him. She was whistling something; he could not recall the song title.
This moment was as good as any. Slay or be slain. Ichigo stopped walking.
Rukia peered over her shoulder, noticing that his footsteps ceased. “Ichigo?”
Now. Now!
Ichigo pulled out the object from his pocket and tossed it to her. “Catch,” he told her.
Her dainty hands made the form of a cup for the object to land in. It was a small square leather box, a clam case upon closer inspection, which fit neatly in her palms. Curious, she opened the box to find a perfectly round amethyst sitting in a silver band.
Of course by now, Ichigo could not keep eye contact. He fixed his attention to her feet.
“This is for me?”
“Yeah,” he answered softly. “Just… keep it.”
“For how long?”
“Dunno,” he replied. “However long you want to, I guess.” Suddenly, the crack in the pavement right below her shoe seemed so interesting…
“Uh, are you feeling sick or something?” Rukia asked with one eyebrow cocked up to her forehead.
It only occurred to him then that perhaps she did not know what he was doing. He was flabbergasted. Did this mean he had to actually say it? Dammit, he could not bring himself to. It was too… too… “Are you serious?!”
“Yes!” Rukia huffed. “I mean, it’s not like I have a birthday. Why would you give me something?!”
Oh my god, she was being serious; she was really that ignorant! Ichigo threw his palm to his forehead, slapping it, and then ran his hand through his hair. Think, Ichi, think… Last thing he wanted to be was a total dumbass… like Renji. “Remember that stupid book you were reading last night?”
“Yeah. What about it?”
“How did it end?” he knew how it ended; he read it to Yuzu when she was small. Correct, smaller.
Rukia puckered her lips towards the right, thinking out loud. “He killed the evil emperor.”
“After that.” Come on, come on…
“The knight proposed to the princess and they got marr--.” Rukia cut herself off and her indigo eyes made their way down to the ring. She looked to him then to the ring, alternating about ten times. He was positive he was as red as a strawberry. “Ichigo… are you asking me to marry you?”
“Do I have to say it directly or something?”
“That would be nice.”
“Hell no! And wipe that grin off your face!!”
“Well, what do you expect?” she pulled the ring from its casing and tried it on her index finger. Seeing as it did not fit, she tried her other fingers until it was wrapped perfectly on her left ring finger. “The knight gave the princess poetry and songs; he romanced her. What have you got?” she crossed her arms defiantly, standing with her feet shoulder-width apart.
What the hell… She was actually challenging him to be romantic? Rukia was insane, the she-devil! And yet, for some reason, Ichigo felt his anxiety soften as he kept his eyes on her. Seeing her stand so tall for her tiny stature… Strange, he thought, how the embodiment of his world stood at four-foot-something.
Ichigo just had to have her, no questions asked.
He stepped up to her until she was only in arm’s reach. In one fluid motion, he scooped her up with one arm and pulled her in for a kiss. He heard a soft gasp from her but she did not protest… that was a good sign, considering how he anticipated her foot in his face for doing something so bold, right there in a public street a few blocks from home.
But then he felt her hook her arms around his neck. Ah, a very good sign…
Ichigo held her against his body, keeping her feet off the ground. He tilted his head back just enough for him to say what he needed to say. “Marry me, Rukia.”
She stared back at him with wide indigo eyes. Rukia pursed her lips together and then ever so gently tilted her head to the left, peering at the sparkling bauble from behind his neck where her hands were laced.
For each second she remained silent, the frown deepened on Ichigo’s face. Seriously, was she going to make him wait all day?
And then, Rukia responded by wrapping her arms tighter around Ichigo’s neck. “Sure,” she answered with a smile.

And the matching fanart for it...
Made it really hazy looking on purpose. That, and I hate coloring.
Poses inspired by the Tommy Hilfiger spring 2008 advertisements.

And speaking of cosplay, I stumbled onto ZiggyB's photoshoot of
Vampire Ichigo and Rukia based on
fanartist's
work. I love when the pairing spreads to different media ♥.
