Today, I scheduled for my utilities and ISP to be disconnected, and signed the intent to vacate agreement for my apartment. Such a weight off my shoulders. I'm returning to Orlando in three weeks, which doesn't say much, but what matters is that I'm leaving the panhandle; this place doesn't have the energy I need.
Still have my job though (I think), and my annual review is being conducted tomorrow afternoon, while my lead is actually local (he works remote as well). I'm not so worried about the review, and I think I've done what I can or at least what's I could do with the information I had at the time. But I do hope they consider my terms for an increase in pay. I wasn't exactly happy when they came in $20k under my requested salary, especially with the sacrifice of moving to a location which is a total turn-off and more costly. What is further upsetting is the spread of resources away from the skilled and experienced, simply in order to fill seats with less qualified individuals in the same position. We don't need "bodies" when the existing group is productive enough to bottleneck the process.
It's irritating, but I'm happy to be detaching just a little bit by going remote. Out of sight, out of mind.
