Okay, let's try to sort this all out...
Via personal research and discussion with associates who are in the animal field, lemmings do not committ mass suicide by hurling themselves into the sea. The myth of mass lemming suicide began when the Walt Disney movie," Wild Wilderness", was released in 1958. It was filmed in Alberta. There are two things wrong with that location; it is NOT near the sea and is NOT a native home to lemmings. So the filmmakers imported lemmings, apparently by buying them from Inuit children.
The migration sequence was filmed by placing the lemmings on a spinning turntable that was covered with snow, and then shooting it from many different angles. The cliff-death-plunge sequence was done by HERDING THE LEMMINGS OVER A CLIFF INTO A RIVER AND FILMING THEM DROWNING. Why did they do this? God only knows but it's pretty damn crazy.
Speaking of which, there was a fire out back of the store a couple of nights ago. Guess what burnt? A PERSON!?!?!?!?! I am so serious. One of the booksellers went out back to see why there were fire trucks, cop cars and ambulances everwhere. He saw a group of people around a smoking corpse. Everyone was/is just in shock. They found a gas can near the scene, so it's been narrowed down to a homocide or a suicide. There is no certainty as to whether the person was alive or dead when he/she was burnt. I'm going to be honest here; I have no fucking clue how to process this. I do not know how to deal with the fact that someone may have been intentionally burnt alive 120 feet from where I was at that moment. I just...wow. I need to talk about something else...
I went to the RHCP concert tonight. It was good. Nowhere near as good as the Pearl Jam concert but good. The the songs they played were 95% from "Californication" and after. They played three songs ('Under the Bridge", "Give it Away" and "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic") from before. They did not play "Suck my Kiss", "Higher Ground" or "Aeroplane". They played nothing from Dave Navarro's time with the group. I freely admit I was disappointed. I was hoping to hear more old stuff. That being said, I wasn't surprised that it worked out that way. They also have alot of newer songs I love but I am still a much older RHCP fan then that and was hoping for more from back in the day.
