Where to start.
Background info: Today is Australia Day (YAY!) and Lelephant's friends had planned this whole invite only thing to the south foreshore. Me and Lelephant would have been way better off on the north side, to be honest. But the two girls organising it lived on the other side so being the awesome people we are, we said we would go to them. We were meant to get there at 4pm to get a good spot for the fireworks.
Me and Lelephant got to the city at 3pm because the ferries weren't running to take us across the river. We needed to take a bus, one that came every 15 minutes or so, which we were fine with.
40 minutes later and the damn thing finally came.
The bus driver was really confusing, so we didn't really know when to get off. We just did when everyone else did. By that time, the sun was nice and high in the sky and we started walking to the park we were going to watch from with our food containers, eskies and stuff. 3km in 40+ degree heat. Yeah. We were that dedicated.
So we found the perfect spot and, being the first ones there at a little past four, we set up. I brought a small sunshade tent thing along, so we set that up. 20 minutes of struggling before some poor guy took pity on us and set it up. And then we waited. And waited. And waited.
4:30pm came along and Usagi-chan called. She 'couldn't find a road that wasn't blocked'. Translation being that she couldn't be bothered going out of her way to drive there, and we were counting on her for a ride home and she knew that. We also found out from her that Meiting wasn't going. That pissed us right off since she was one of the ones who organised it. She wasn't going because Usagi wasn't.
We called up the other organiser, Hong, and she hadn't even left her house. It was 5pm by then. And then that hot bright day turned to rain. We still got half soaked in our tent and got a lovely view of the lightening and thunderstorm. This is the first Australia Day of this type of weather EVER. Considering we were in the middle of summer, this was very strange unnatural behaviour for the weather.
The fireworks were set to start at 8pm. It was 7:30pm when we got some kind of message from Hong that she was there. And she found another fucking spot and refused to move from it. I don't think I've ever seen Lelephant pissed off before. I never want to again. So we watched by ourselves in the rain, not appreciating it as much as we might have.
'What can go wrong, will go wrong.' I really never want to hear that ever again.
