For some reason or another, on Monday my car and I were recruited for a three-person road trip to Omaha, Nebraska. Since I didn't have to spend any of the money I don't have on it, since I'd just woken up when Adam called, and since I would've been shut in for the next couple of days anyway, I agreed right away and we left about two hours or so later.
It was a pretty hectic drive. I forced on at ninety miles per hour through a particularly fierce storm sometime before Kearney (which is for some reason pronounced 'carnie') and the already trashy insides of the car are now way more cluttered than before. Gas prices and unscrupulous business tore through our Adam's wallet, but thanks to some ridiculous "IT'S THE PATH A MAN MUST TAKE" logic I pulled from some anime I was watching the day before, we steeled our resolve and forged ahead against all odds!
(I guess it also helps that we were only going a state away, not all the way to China.)
We grabbed a hotel in Lincoln around four AM, and I hung around and played Etrian Odyssey until whatever mysterious force kept me going for a ten-hour drive wore off and I got some sleep. In the morning, we went and visited Kilroy's aunt, made sandwiches and grabbed some Hi-C, and drove fifty miles down the road to Omaha.
The roads in Omaha kinda suck, but we made it to the arcade we were planning on checking out with very few difficulties. It's a pretty nice arcade! It surprised me that they'd upgraded the Happy Sky I read about on DDR Freak to DistorteD, and doubly surprised me that someone was actually playing it when we walked in. Also, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core is pretty awesome, but broken controllers aren't really all that fun.
The arcade was full of weird things. Maybe I should write about them later...?
Well, anyway, we spent six hours or so in Omaha. We stopped at GameStop to trade in some of Adam's games for Every Extend Extra and some other crap, then headed to Burger King for BURGERS, and I finally called my mom and told her I was in Nebraska. She didn't seem too surprised.
I made Kilroy drive on the way back, mostly because I wanted to play Every Extend Extra, and also because I was just a little bit tired. We went through another storm, and somehow managed to cut down on gas and time. It's weird!
The whole trip took something like 36 or so hours. Right now I'm just sort of recovering from it. The moral of the story? If you do things regardless of whether or not they actually make sense, they'll usually turn out okay.
