What a nuisance

QOTD: "Weather forecast for tonight: dark. Continued dark overnight, with widely scattered light by morning."

Well, while looking for information on official evacuation orders (97.1 was much more helpful than anyone else I've found and WXXV's website can go straight to hell), I decided to see what the Keesler site had to say, and I happened upon a story that issued an evacuation order for tomorrow, 0600-1800. This caused me some consternation since I didn't know if the evacuation order applied to me, as I'm a member of a response team, but not storm-essential personnel. Fortunately, the article said that the rapid recovery team would be sheltering on base. Unfortunately, all it says about that is that everyone should report to their designated locations. I have no idea where that is. Also unfortunately, we've just changed oversight and are in the control of another hierarchy, so all the email traffic I have from last year is useless. I have not been contacted by anyone from my company nor have I been contacted by anyone from our military supervisors. I guess I'll be making some phone calls in the morning. Fie.

And for anyone interested, the automated postal centers in post offices that let you do shipping and such after the counter closes will not ship to military addresses. Did you know that? I didn't. I was quite irate. Apparently the APC doesn't understand that the damned counter won't be open for two days if I'm lucky and I certainly won't be able to get to one before Friday. Pah! So enough of that.

I was going to do laundry tomorrow. I guess I won't be doing that. Well... maybe I will. Such a nuisance. All of it. The only real advantage is that to our knowledge, no one's shot any photos from inside a shelter during a storm, so my photos could be used especially often if I get anything decent. But if I shoot too much beforehand, I won't have the space/power to shoot the official stuff I'm supposed to shoot afterward. Such ridiculousness. Why did I accept this assignment, anyway?

Oh, for anyone who cares, New Orleans interstate contraflow begins at 4AM. Hattiesburg's about to get some people.
Highway 49 will not be contraflowed.

unhappiness, keesler
