QOTD: “If you are allergic to a thing, it is best not to put that thing in your mouth, particularly if that thing is cats.”
Went to the eye doctor today. I wanted to update my prescription since it's four years old and I want new frames. Why? Because I'm fucking sick of these frames and they're four years old so they're really starting to show their wear and tear. So anyway, the nurse/optician/tech/whatever does the little "Is this better... or this?" routine with the eye chart and I come out to 15/15 vision, which is pretty damned good if I do say so myself. However, this is somewhat bizarre as I have astimatism in one eye, so I shouldn't get an even score. Whatever. So then he examines my glasses and discovers that my glasses are not the same as the prescription - the lenses are in the wrong sides of the frame. So I've been wearing a double correction on the eye that needs a single and vice versa and so forth. For four years. That's fucked up. But my vision's equalized, so... whatever.
I'd never been to this doctor before, but he was really great. He said if I was interested in contacts at some point, I should just let them know. So I did. They did the little exam for that and I got a sample set and supervised instructions on how to put them in and take them out. I also looked for frames while I was there. And despite them having a good selection of the styles I'm looking for, they had none I desired. My glasses stayed in the bag with the bottle of contact wash and my prescriptions and I've worn the contacts all day. Still trying to decide whether or not to invest. It's strange catching reflections of myself outside not wearing glasses. Was also strange seeing my eyes from so far away in a mirror. Usually they're out of focus until I'm close enough for bathroom lights to cast a brow shadow over them. I didn't realize my eyes were that brightly colored. My lenses are Transitions and, again, are four years old and have lost some of their restoration-to-clear ability and are slightly yellowed and darkened. That's one reason why I want new glasses: I can't stand that tinting. I'm going to try to get new glasses after I get to Florida, despite the hassle it will be.
I stopped by Arby's to see
stefanieslaw, but she had just left. The frontline worker was very courteous, however. A tribute to frontline. I should've told him I had just ordered a sandwich in drive-thru and it was filled with pasta. Yell for a few minutes about it being too hot, then tip him for their creativity and leave before anything can be said. Alas, I am not yet so bold.
Today I acquired: 1 green long-sleeve dress shirt, 2 silk ties (metallic white & dark blue), 1 standard tie, 3 pairs of black dress socks, 1 pair of off-white khakis, and 1 black belt.
alicdeni83 came over today and we swapped gifts. I was mandated to not open it until I was in Florida and alone. She brought her dog, Mandy, over to visit as well. She stayed just long enough to cross paths with my dad as he was getting home from work. Oh, the family now has four vehicles (three cars and a truck) and none of them have come into my ownership. I understand the logic. I mean, after all, you can drive more than one car at a time, right?
According to my Disney housing confirmation, my assigned role is "WDW HOST/HOSTESS." I suspect this will entail a great deal of memorization. Little do they know that my super mnemonic faceplate is now complete and fully operational! BWAHAHAHA!
[CRASH]
It was you who broke my mason plate!
Oh god, extended allusions again...
