I'm supposed to be working on my 12-page research paper right now... TIME FOR
fannish5!
5 (canon) couples that seemingly came out of nowhere
LOLOLOL, I could probably do a whole thing just on Glee couples, no sweat, (continuity? what continuity?) BUT I SHALL RESTRAIN MYSELF.
1. Kurt/Blaine (Glee) - Yes it fucking did. It wasn't a surprise that they ended up together, because as soon as Blaine appeared on screen was confirmed to be gay, you knew he was going to end up with Kurt. BUT, up until Kurt sang Blackbird, they were firmly in "friend" territory. Yes, Kurt was clearly crushing on Blaine, but Blaine liking him back as more than a friend was just "wait, when did that happen?" ~you move me~
(I still love them, though)
2. Kurt/Karofsky (Glee) - No, they're not actually a couple, but that kiss came out of nowhere. AND, at this point in the show if the two of them end up together, a bigger WTF moment I cannot think of. I'm pretty ambivalent to the pairing, but umm, no. Karofsky as a lot of making up to do before he and Kurt have a shot. But I still prefer Klaine.
As I said in a previous Glee reaction post, the kiss between them was almost so expected, that I never thought it would actually happen. So the fact that it did? Holy shit.
3. Sawyer/Juliet (Lost) - Even the actors themselves admit that it came out of nowhere, and that they had one episode to sway fans to this pairing.
4. Martha/Mickey (Doctor Who) - you guys have probably heard my thoughts on this way too many times, but I'm not budging.
5. Spock/Uhura (Star Trek XI) - My tin hat is firmly in place when I say that JJ Abrams, who is well aware of fan craziness, paired up Spock and Uhura to avoid the Spock/Kirk issue. I will, however, say that my tin hat is most certainly off when it comes to Kirk and Spock having mass amounts of UST in TOS. And had it probably not been made in the 60s, the two of them would have been even more obvious.
Also, Nimoy and Nichols have gone on record saying that they played Spock and Uhura in TOS as mentor and student, not lovers.
ALSO, DOCTOR WHO: AWESOME Y/Y? I'm going to try and find a way to watch the Lis Sladen/Sarah Jane tribute now.
I am keeping my thoughts on this episode to myself for the moment, because knowing me I'll spoil next week's accidentally. ::flails::
