Girl Power y'all

First off, I ACTUALLY FINISHED MY
purimgifts FIC. FUCK YEAH~!

Well, haven't done this in a while, I think: ~
fannish5~ Who are your five favourite female characters of colour? (with pictures!)

A side note: these are in no particular order, and are mostly the stuff I watch (reread) now. BECAUSE THIS WAS REALLY FUCKING HARD TO CHOSE. Also, I tried to limit it to one character per show, because I could probably pick 5 from Lost and Doctor Who alone or something.

1. Toshiko Sato (Torchwood) - as someone on who_anon said, can we start a campaign to bring her back by sending hands nailed to steering wheels to the BBC, please? I think part of the reason I love(d) Tosh is because out of all the Torchwood Three regulars, she was the one I most wanted to be. Yes, she was lonely, but she was a genius and, IMO, she started to grow into herself and get over the horrors she faced in UNIT, and she was willing to sacrifice her own life to save Cardiff from a nuclear meltdown. Also her sense of humor makes me laugh.

I picked this picture because she looks happy here.
2. Nyota Uhura (Star Trek) - both TOS and Reboot versions of her. I think she gets to be more badass (on average) in the movie, however her epic badassery in TOS episode "Mirror, Mirror" is just WHOA. Granted, I have yet to see the original movies and most of season 3. Also, Nichelle Nichols as Uhura in TOS was a ground-breaking role for her to be playing in the Sixties simply because she is a WoC. No, she wasn't an opening credits character (hell, even McCoy/DeForest Kelley wasn't in the first season) but
I would like to take this moment to point out that I ship Kirk/Spock, and I still love Reboot!Uhura (I also ship Reboot Kirk/Spock/Uhura, but whatever)

Also: TOS Uhura in "Mirror, Mirror". Your argument is invalid.
3. Buriram Tourakom, aka Buri (Tamora Pierce's "Tortall" series) - Probably the first badass of color that I read about and really remembered. She was young and hotheaded, and still helped save the day throughout the Tortall books. Both as a warrior and by pretending to be someone's significant other to save them from humiliation.

No pictures, unfortunately, as she's a book character that (thank God) hasn't been made into a movie

4. Santana Lopez (Glee) - If you'd asked me this question two weeks ago, Santana probably would not have made this list. I liked her character and I liked her sass and I liked her because I loved Brittany and Brittany loved her. So when this was not only proven canon, but proven canon by Santana taking the plunge and confessing her own feelings when she knew Brittany was already involved with Artie*. We're really getting to see more about Santana, rather than just the bitchy persona she shows to most of the world. (Plus, I totally cheered when she gave Finn and Quinn mono. Am I a bitch? Probably Yes, but I was sooooo pissed at those two then)
Also, to quote
lookninjas: Trouty Mouth.

There is no blonde in this picture...
5. Martha Jones (Doctor Who) - She walked a dying world and saved it. The Doctor willingly took her through time and space and he didn't want her to go. She made the choice to leave. Also, I hate that people hate on her for stupid reasons. GTFO.

As much as her ending up married to Mickey in EoT makes me go ...WTFBBQ!? You cannot deny how awesome her hair was. UNF.

BONUS #1. Liz X (Doctor Who) - "I'm the bloody queen, mate. Basically, I rule." ::dies of awesome:: As amazing as Liz X was, I think she was good as a minor character. Partially because characterization is not Moffat's strong suit (compared to RTD, at least) and this way, everything she did was pretty badass. Yes, she made some bad decisions, *coughspacewhalecough* but on the whole she was awesome, and this way she stays that way.

BONUS #2. Sun-Hwa Kwon (Lost) - I first started to like her because of her and Jin's story (holy fuck, do I ship them) but then we see her stand up to her father, collaborate with Charles Widmore, grieve like a mofo for Jin, and then go back to the Island to help. Can't touch this.

Also, if you don't know about tentacle_fest, get off your ass and go. Needs moar prompts!

To my flist: I hope that if you did anything for it, you had a fun St. Patrick's day. (I spent the day shopping with mom. Joy.) And to all my Jews: Purim Sameach! I'M DRESSING UP STEAMPUNK THIS YEAR~

Hahaha, I just realized that I have the same dreamwidth layout as
fannish5, LULZ. I think I just always assumed it was some automatic style=mine, IDEK. I got almost nothing accomplished this week.

*A note to anyone that's hating on Artie for him being the reason Santana and Brittany aren't together: Brittany and Artie already had a "cheating scare" during Sectionals and Brittany said she wouldn't cheat on Artie. Granted, continuity in Glee is laughable at best, and we know that Brittany loves Santana, but she wouldn't so that to Artie. Come on.
ETA: fixed the Tosh picture

fannish5, lost, fandom is srs bzns, trouty mouth, meme, glee, star trek, torchwood, ya books ftw, books
