This post contains spoilers for Torchwood: Children of Earth. NO CUT BECAUSE I WANT EVERYONE TO SEE THIS. Changed my mind because this is way longer than I thought it would be.
So I realized I haven't done a rec post in a while, and I figure that 8am chem lecture is the perfect time to do it, so I compiled this list last week and then promptly put it off (like I do everything). I'm going with the format of title, author, copypasta summary, warnings if necessary, followed by my own anecdotes. All of these (that are Torchwood) are Jack/Ianto and have happy endings, as per usual from me, so I'm not listing pairings.
Through a Glass, Darkly by
bookwrm89 [no given summary] Warnings: Character death (canon), spoilers for CoE, angst, m/m
bookwrm89 manages to weave fantasy and scifi beautifully in this piece, and like most CoE fix-its, this made me cry. A lot. It was based off a dream she had, and is beautifully written. It's hard to explain this fic, but it's one of those "true love saves the day" fics without actually being as cheesy as I've made it sound.
The Edge in Your Affection Broke My Skin by
christinchenOriginally written for Round 13 at
rounds_of_kink. Companion piece to 1x02 - Day One. Prompt: He was beyond exhausted and not really getting any pleasure from it any more, and yet the alien drug forced Ianto to keep having sex, or it would kill him. Warnings: explicit adult content, dubious consent, forced orgasms, aliens made them do it, intoxication, shagging to exhaustion
This is the best smut you will ever read. I'm not even joking. I get flushed just thinking about it. <3
My Heart Will Go On by

Aristocrat Ianto in unhappily engaged. What will happen when he meets the handsome 3rd-class passenger Jack Harkness aboard a ship..? Basically Titanic, but with a delicious Torchwood Twist! M-Rated chapter now up..You have been warned! Explicit scenes! Warnings: explicit sex, implied character death, homophobia, graphic descriptions, angst like WHOA
I found this fic when it was still a WIP, and held off reccing it because I was unsure of how it would end. Yes, I know it's based off Titanic which should have been a big clue there, but the "Torchwood Twist" had me very hopeful that Jack might be immortal anyways. Out of all the fics on this list, Muchieees is probably the most inexperienced writer, but comparatively, her fic made me cry the most the first time I read it (as pretty much every chapter from when the boat started sinking made me bawl again, whereas the others on this list I read in one go so it was one continuous cry). No matter what, you have to respect the choices she makes and read it through. It is truly a shining gem from the Pit.

This is crack in it's finest form. It's a pre-show fic, though Ianto does make a very brief appearance at the end. This is another take on where Janet the Weevil came from, along with idiot!Jack at his best. To quote the author, "Rating: Unspeakable".
Every once in a while, you come across fic that just touches your heart and makes you cry. A fic that you want to read over and over again and you never want it to end, and no matter how many times you read it you *still* cry because they are just too beautiful for words. A fic that makes you tear up just thinking about it because it's so brilliant, and then wax poetic about them. These last three fics did just that and immediately launched themselves onto my "favorite Torchwood fic" list. All of them are CoE-related fics, and these are the tree fics that I have been and will continue to go back to when my angst-meter gets too high and I just can't deal with the fanfic in this fandom anymore. All of these have a happy ending.
Where the End Meets the Start by
gkbgood A year after the 456 and the Earth is in trouble, and Gwen, Martha and the Doctor to the future to find Captain Jack Harkness. But Jack's been busy, after a thousand years he's figured out a plan to get back what he's lost. In a clash of wills between Jack and the Doctor, who is going to win.
After 1000 years, Jack still remembers Ianto and is trying to get him back. ...This is a fic that does not get enough attention because it's a TW Big Bang fic. which means that it's long and daunting and if the author is unknown people tend to skip it. I did that at first, but with Where the End Meets the Start that's the worst thing you could do; it doesn't drag, and has an incredible plot. I could honestly go on about this fic forever, (and I kind of do in the comment I left --which this fic totally does not have enough of, so please leave one and tell the author how awesome she is) because there is just so much to love about it. Ianto isn't physically in it for most of the fic, but you still feel his presence through Jack's pain and determination to get him back, and when he succeeds, well, ::cries again:: I'll leave it at this: if you only read one fic on this list, read this one.
Adeste Fidelis by
teachwriteslash Ianto Jones was so much more to Jack than anyone knew. Once upon a time, he made his Captain a promise. Will he keep it? Warnings: Slash, language, character death, mentions Mpreg
This is a "fix-it fic" of a different sort, hence the quote marks, and there's a reason I nominated it for and it won the Children of Earth category (and not the fix-it one) in the most recent Children of Time awards. I promise it has a happy ending, or I wouldn't be reccing it, but you have to read it to see the twist. Teach has always been a personal favorite writer of mine and in this she manages to show just how much Jack and Ianto love each other without needing them to say it.
Legacy of the Bad Wolf by
teleen_fiction The 10th Doctor finds Jack after the events of Children of Earth. COE fix. Warnings: Extreme Torture, Rape, MPreg, Slash, Explicit Sex, Explicit Violence, Mentions of character death, Language, deus ex machina
This is the fic that has just about everything I've ever wanted in a fix-it but haven't had the talent or motivation to write. A lot of Bad Things happen to Jack in this, but it is one of the best reads you will find in a while. It starts off with a *beautiful* opening paragraph and you're hooked from there, but my favorite part is the ending. I won't out and out spoil it for you, but I will again say that Teleen wrote the fanfic I have always wanted to write, and the end is actually something that I have *always* held as my own personal canon as a way to reconcile Jack as the Face of Boe and having Ianto be with him forever. I honestly have no way to express just how grateful I am to her for writing it even though I'd never even heard of her before, and I get all choked up just thinking about it because I love it so much.
NOT TORCHWOOD

There really are no words for this, only that I read it last week and I'm still laughing about it. It was written as an April Fool's joke, and really is the Best Fic Ever. No, Really. Just go read it.
Writers, if by some chance you come across this rec list, see your fic and want to correct something I've said about it, please feel free. I appreciate it because it means that I've been advertising your fic wrongly and I don't want to do that
