Weekly Photoshop: Night Storm

Jan 15, 2010 10:30

So, I mentioned in my last post that I'd already done my Photoshop project for this week, and so I have. It's not from a tutorial, but rather just from me messing around to see what I could do. I've been trying to develop my skills so that I can start doing more recolors of Sims content, and so I'm exploring the basics of what can be done with Photoshop in that respect.

One of the interesing things I've discovered is how much can be accomplished in Photoshop by using downloadable content - brushes and textures and gradients and things like that - that other users have created and shared with the Photoshop community. I got very excited by a lot of what I found, exploring the various content sites, and downloaded a whole bunch of toys to play with. And in experimenting, here is one of the nicer things I came up with:

This was mostly done with downloaded content. Brushes for the trees, clouds, lightning and stars. A gradient for the background that I started with. So, I can't take much credit for this beyond picking the colors, using the brushes to paint on several different layers, and then putting the layers together in a way that made the lighting effect really come out nice. For a beginning 'just messing around' piece, I think it's not too bad. ^_^
