"I love the smell of Windex in the morning."

Well, I'm dragging myself out of the housecleaning "I don't wannnaaaaaa!" mode that I've been on for the past couple of weeks. I might be kicking and screaming about it and sulkily de-cluttering, but at least it's getting done. Taking a break now while the kitchen floor dries. The dishwasher just finished, so as soon as the floor is walkable, I' ( Read more... )

There is a yarn shop down the street and I always think of you whenever I walk by - though I don't know anything about yarn so don't know if it's actually any good or what.

We almost always end up in the Sunday grocery rush, so I'm always really surprised at how quiet it can be if you go just a little bit earlier or later - or on a different day entirely. Not to mention the way better selections in bread and meat!

Oooh, yarn! I wish that we had an honest-to-goodness yarn shop here in town, but the one that we had recently closed up. It was also mega pricey, but then again, it had the fancy Merino wool and other higher scale items for sale. I went there once and I think I walked out with $20 worth of items, which was just a skein of hand-dyed wool and a circular knitting needle. Oy.

I hear you on the better selection of items! If I can make it in the 7:00-8:30 window, I'm golden. There's hardly any traffic and even at the 8:30-9:45 time frame it's okay. It's the 10:30 rush where people are getting out of church that's killer. And forget going to the store after noon. You might as well just wait until Monday.

I think this is definitely one of those shops... how else can a yarn shop survive I guess? Still, if it's anything like the pricey bakery down the block it's entirely worth it!

10:30 - 2pm is pretty much a write off! I've gone in when there wasn't any bread left - or meat! Those were some hungry weeks haha Fortunately, I don't think that many people actually grocery shop at the little store by our new place, so we've actually been able to score some pretty good deals on the weekend. We always seem super out of place with our giant baskets, though!

I think you just described my life there. Oh man, there's dishes in the sink that are starting to smell and it's either been 95+ in my apartment and I can't breathe, or I've been desperately trying to sleep for work. And we wouldn't actually expect Bill to help and do the dishes, would we? Oh no, it's "my" chore, so rather than help me when I'm busy and sick to my wits end, we're just going to hold it against me. Ah, life.

I would just wash the dishes that I personally used, then if there were complaints about the ones left, I'd shrug and say "You have hands, wash your own." and then leave them there in a sort of stand-off.

Sounds great in theory, but probably not so great in practical use, especially if you want to keep the peace. Them "wimmenfolk" chores, gotta love 'em, right? *sigh*

(I'd also go out of my way to find bugs, seeing as bug-squishing duty falls squarely under the guy's "chore" list if we have to do the dishes.)
