How many wenches can you pile into a single car?

And we're back from Sherwood's 2011 Opening day. The Dragon Wagon broke down, so the Wenchmobile wound up getting called up for duty. I don't think the five of us stopped laughing the entire day and I think that this was the best faire day I've ever had.

But before pictures, here's the PotD, starting from the 18th and going into today's:

From here on out, I'm probably going to be using my camera's black and white option a LOT.

The rest of this post will be extremely picture-heavy underneath the cut.

The five of us:

The bees loved the flowers in my wreath! They wouldn't leave me alone!

The birds from the Birds of Prey show were amazing; Merlin the Owl was particularly photogenic. :)

The Knights of Meyhem are a full contact jousting team that's going to be at Sherwood all through this year's run as well as the weekend right after for an actual tournament. They're also going to be featured on National Geographic for a documentary series, so there might be a chance that the five of us could be on TV for a brief "look right there! I was in the stands!" moment.

Um, there were other knights there, but I kinda got fixated on the Black Knight representing France. I think they were trying to set him up as the bad guy (even though they don't perform by any script and all the hits are 100% real and unstaged) but the crowd loved him.

And just to prove that there were other knights there:

More random shots:

Taken purely for the muttonchops.

Wandering musician who decided to sit and rest a bit next to this one crochet/knitted goods shop (note to self: next project shall be a scarf/hand warmer pocket duo. They were selling for $60-80.)

I got a beautiful jasper pendant wrapped in copper wire over here. The owner said that jasper is supposed to dispel negativity and bring in positive energy. Even though the Reason Issa Had To Write Fluff To Keep Her Sane is gone, it doesn't hurt to have a little extra help in the banish bad mojo department.

This guy was part of a band that was playing at one of the pubs. He got stopped for pictures and then decided to play a little number for everyone. I've seen him at TRF; really cool guy.

Detail from this one guy's Steampunk outfit. His entire getup was fantastic, but I loved his top hat. Marchelle and I are going to try and work out some sort of Steam-inspired projects for Halloween/TRF season.

This little girl was adorable. I think she belongs to one of the people who run the faire, because she was pretty much running loose throughout the thing and sticking close by some people that had headsets and walkie talkies. She was so thrilled to see so many fairies, but then she caught sight of Angela and marched up to her to say "Fairies shouldn't smoke and drink!"

Angela's reply:

The Fall Fairy has turned into the Bad Influence Fairy.

Hands down, the most kickass costumes at Faire so far.

Birds of Prey was in the middle of demonstrating how falcons circle their meal before swooping in to eat it when mid-circle, the falcon went "oooh! Shiny!" and flew off to investigate the petting zoo. His trainer found him after the show hanging out in a tree and then walked him back to their stage.

And my favorite shot of the day:

I got sunburnt across my nose and over my cleavage, (the self-portrait one doesn't show it, but I was wearing my usual white blouse; I'm just so pale and at the angle that the sun was hitting me you can't really tell right there) my calves are screaming from walking uphill and over uneven ground, and I more than likely made my sprained ankle even worse, but it was the best day in a very long time. I think we all needed a break from the usual grind and this provided a very welcome distraction. Can't wait to go back!

friends who are ridiculously awesome, 365 project, ren faire a go go, pictures
