Puff puff puff

After six nights of not getting more than three hours of sleep (much of that in 30-minute snatches), today I begged the CNP at the clinic to do something. In return I got an albuterol inhaler. I don't know that it'll do much for the cough--I am at least getting better during the day, so it's been hard to judge if today's improvement was due to ( Read more... )

Have you been elevating your head? I spent a while sleeping on about three pillows for my head and then a couple small ones leading up to it so I created an incline.

All this week, around 2 or 3 AM I would get to a point where I'd try that, but it never did much. (Any benefit was outweighed by how incredibly uncomfortable it was anyway.) But it's a moot point now; the inhaler (or maybe just time) worked wonders, and between last night and a long nap this morning, I managed about 12 hours of sleep. It was amazing.

Excellent! Now a warning (I've been waiting to use that line). Make sure you don't push yourself for a while. Get lots of rest, eat well and honestly, do not push yourself.

...so, I don't have whooping cough. WE'RE BRONCHITIS BUDDIES! I got an albuterol inhaler today too, and I've had one dose, plus a cough-suppressant pill, plus a bunch of ibuprofen. Result: exactly nothing. Oh, except yesterday I coughed so hard I sprained my ribs. I went to the doctor thinking I'd fractured something. My only hope is that the girl who coughed on me on the train three weeks ago is suffering as bad as I am.

Yaaaay, no whooping cough!

I got an albuterol inhaler today too, and I've had one dose, plus a cough-suppressant pill, plus a bunch of ibuprofen. Result: exactly nothing.

Awww. Maybe the inhaler will work tonight? I was unconvinced that mine was doing much during the day, but it was MAGIC last night. I slept so much. It took away the feeling of a large cat sitting on my chest, and it also stopped this fluttery feeling in my lungs that I'd get every time I took a breath. (Seriously, it felt like I had a bird trapped under my sternum.)

The old "Vicks VapoRub in a bowl of hot water" trick also seemed to do...something. Possibly the menthol just burned my lungs so much they couldn't mucus for a while.

Oh, except yesterday I coughed so hard I sprained my ribs.

Yikes. I managed to avoid that, although I did make my diaphragm, back, and basically every other muscle around my chest massively sore for a few days.

Get betterrrr!
