Castle 2.12: A Rose for Everafter

Jan 12, 2010 22:14

Back in Knoxville. Classes start tomorrow. (Well, mine start on Thursday, but anyway.) Bah. So not ready for vacation to be over.

I ran into three other English department grad students this afternoon at the local used book emporium. Because we are just that predictable, we found each other in the classics/"modern literature" aisle.

Speaking of books, I spent $120 at the university bookstore on texts for the one class I'm taking this semester. And I own two of them, so I wasn't even buying all of them. BLAH.

This one was a bit predictable--really, who couldn't see that kiss coming from the moment the previews mentioned "Castle's old flame," and then the inevitable ending where she nudges Beckett about her UST with Castle?--but enjoyable nevertheless. I've missed this show over the past month. There are so many little things that just make me smile. Like the following:

- I love that Castle has a little Nikki Heat silhouette on his phone for when Beckett calls.

- Alexis's and Beckett's red coats were fabulous. I also loved the white boatneck shirt Beckett wore later in the episode. Her shoulders are fabulous. (And I totally think Beckett would be the type to find something she likes---probably on sale--and buy one in every color. Hee!)

- Alexis taping Castle to the chair. HA! And then Castle getting himself out of it with help from the trash can (and the trash). Bwahahaha.

- Esposito: Dude, "mauve"?
Ryan: What? I have sisters.

- Hmmm. Lainie was definitely pushing the Beckett/Castle train hard in this one. That could be getting a little annoying.

- Wow, mom-in-law from hell. But I loved Castle's delayed-reaction shudder when Beckett noted that he might have been having Thanksgiving with her.

- "You were not asking very loudly." Awww! Continuity!

- Beckett: When I'm not here, do you guys braid each other's hair and debate who's the best Jonas brother?
Esposito & Ryan: No. But it's Nick./Totally Nick./Nick's the cutest.

And with that I think I just started shipping them. (Uh...the Jonas brothers sing, right? Or something? Wait, aren't they all minors?)

- Beckett: "[If you weren't Kyra's old flame,] you'd be making up a story. [makes up story]" She is TOTALLY going to write a crime novel one day. And have it outsell one of Castle's books. TOTALLY.

- Whoa, Castle wrote that book longhand? How long ago was this? (And was that picture a real one of Nathan and Alyssa Milano from however many years ago? It looked awfully authentic, not like they'd just messed up their hair and applied makeup.)

- Oh, Castle. Beckett plays you like the proverbial violin. Of course she knew about the meeting on the roof.

- And Esposito interrupts again. You know he and Ryan are running a pool about when they'll finally get together.

- Beckett's been a bridesmaid six times? Beckett has six female friends?

- I liked the twists and turns of the plot. I don't usually try to solve the mystery, but I don't know that I would've unraveled it if I had been trying this time.

- I really like how often they show either Castle or Beckett (usually Castle) having some kind of character moment, and the other one looking on from another room or a short distance or whatever. I think it really adds to the feeling that the writers are building a romance and a relationship between these characters--showing them getting to know/respect/like each other--and not just milking UST.

- Aw, Beckett caught the bouquet. You know, I feel like it's almost become cliche for the obvious target not to catch the bouquet, so I like that they had her get it this time. Cute.

I have The Thin Man coming up soon in my Netflix queue, and as I've heard many, many people compare this show to that movie series, I'm very excited. (I tried reading the original novel by Dashiell Hammett, but didn't get far. Detective fiction doesn't do a lot for me.)

tv: castle, grad school
