Tempted by Megan Hart

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I'll preface this by saying that I'm really on the fence about giving this book three stars. It's more like 3.5. Maybe even 4 if it didn't fuck with my head so much.

To start off, let me say the characters are amazing. Well written, detailed in all the places they need to be, and full of emotion. Because of that, this book absolutely broke my heart. Really and truly. I haven't read a romance novel in forever, and picked up this one on a whim expecting a light read with some pleasant action. Instead, while I got a good book, I also got an emotional roller-coaster that left me feeling sad ad deflated at the end.

The end really is the problem. The emotional turmoil in the book could have been dealt with better, leaving readers so much happier. It didn't have to be a fairy tale ending, but it didn't have to be downright depressing either. I actually *liked* the main character, but I ended up wanting to shake her till she realized that she was the one with the major hang ups and questions that resulted in things not working out. It seemed the author's preoccupation with conventional long term relationship pairings got in the way of keeping this book from being really stellar.
