A Year in Review - 2013

Jan 02, 2014 17:26

January.
- I finally started a Dreamwidth account after a lot of LJ down time.
- Started what I consider the "final leg" of my educational career. Preclinicals and methods classes only!
- Found out I would be eligible for middle school endorsements in every subject with just a *tiny bit of work!
- Dar passed away in his sleep. :( He was 11. RIP my ferret boy. <3
- Adopted out some rescue ratties.
- Car started overheating. This was the beginning of a terrible car year.
- My first bill collectors ever started calling me. No, sorry I don't have $70,000 to give you because I needed emergency surgery and can't afford health insurance.
- Internet drama with a person I thought was a friend gave me a sad. :(

February.
- Started my first pre-clinical. It was at a Catholic school, 3rd grade.
- Attended a catholic-school sponsored seminar on how to spot pedophiles. lol'ing ALL DAY LONG.
- Started seriously building a business-casual wardrobe.
- Joel managed to not forget my birthday. We didn't go anywhere, or do anything, but at least he got me a gift. No card though.
- My mom canceled on making me dinner 3 times for my birthday, then just stopped mentioning it. :(
- I got my TAP test results - I passed on the first try!

March.
- Actually didn't procrastinate with school projects.
- I cooked fish for the first time! And it was even good. :D
- My PC1 advisor started making my life hell over missed visits when my co-op school was closed.
- Joel got a ticket in the mail for turning on a red where there was a camera. $100 we didn't have. He waited till the last minute to pay it, and I had to keep reminding him to do so.
- Target was really unreliable with giving Joel hours at work. Bad for finances.
- I spent a lot of money putting gas in the car that I didn't have, and Joel never paid me back. :(
- Opened an OKCupid account. Maybe dating isn't so hard? Closed it after a while though, cause I'm not an asshole. :/

April.
- We got a bearded dragon - Ridley!
- Inde hurt his back and couldn't walk all of a sudden. So terrifying. Took him to the vet and they couldn't figure it out, so they gave us pain pills, anti-inflammatory steroids, and antibiotics (he had a slight fever) and we went home and waited. A specialist consultation and MRI was quoted at $1,000. So scary.
- Took him to the vet for a steroid shot. He could partially stand, but his back legs kept collapsing.
- He slowly recovered. After three weeks, he could walk with some stiffness, and bunny hopped when he tried to run.

May.
- Inde finally recovered completely. Fingers crossed for no reoccurrences!
- For the first time in about 9 or so years, I bought a pair of shorts.
- I was successful in consistently making it to my 8am class - very proud.
- Grades were good, but could have been better.
- Bought bulk crickets on-line for the first time. Absolutely terrifying.

June.
- I hurt my lower back. :( No doctor, cause I'm poor.
- Joel took a week off work with his vacation time, but it was kind of ruined by my back being out of commission.
- Lots of mini-type panic attacks this month.
- Wendy Davis Abortion Filibuster!
- Actually set up my Fall schedule moderately early. *gasp*
- Started buying awesomely gaudy jewelry on eBay. >.> I'm super cheap and it's like shipping at the dollar store.

July.
- Made a major cleaning list! Got a decent amount of it done.
- Rescued a very sick baby rat who died before I could get her home. Heartbreaking. :(
- Seriously started considering/planning to go see Wicked! Joel and I were going to save for tickets, but he never did. :(
- Started watching Dr. Who. :)
- Made an appointment to have Lily, the "viscous" Petsmart rat, PTS. On the day of the appointment, I found that Sunni was developing a tumor as well, so took them both in. RIP my sweet rattie girls.
- Started breeding dubia roaches.
- Finally built my outside planter boxes.
- Joel quit Target after being offered a manager position with guaranteed hours at Walgreens.

August.
- Started seriously expanding my e-book collection.
- Started Fall semester at school, including PC2.
- The Great Cricket War happened. 4 days of incessant chirping that seemingly came from everywhere at once. Finally found the monster cricket in the back of the fridge - did battle with a yard stick and canned air. Victory! 3 days latter...more chirping, albeit a somewhat mangled chirping. Mr. Cricket was not so fast to get away this time and died the good death. Peace at last.
- Mom visited for a few days.
- I spent $50 at the grocery store and never got paid back.

September.
- My 13th anniversary. We didn't do anything (of course). I gave Joel a card and took him to dinner.
- Still no info on PC2 given - super stressed. We were supposed to start at the beginning of the month, and by the end we still didn't even have our assignments!
- Adopted a kitty, Quinn! He's a pretty awesome cat. He's been at the shelter since he was a baby.
- Mangled my thumb with a large knife while cutting veggies for Ridley. Needed stitches, but no money for Dr. Oh well.

October.
- Mom tried to commit suicide via medication overdose. Went to her house after a disturbing "goodbye" call, and found her drugged on the floor when we got there. Called 911 and got her to the hospital. Was very touch and go, and was eventually intubated.
- Large mess over transition from ER to ICU to Mental Health Unit. She was very angry, and kept changing her story.
- Missed a lot of school. Very behind.
- Preclinical information was finally given to use at the end of the month. We were approx 6 weeks behind, and no mention was given on how we were supposed to catch up. Very panicked. Was assigned to a public school in Bolingbrook, 4th grade.
- Mom was released into my custody for 72 hour observation. Started having intermittent electrical/brain seizures and had to be returned to the hospital.
- The transmission on my car went out. $2,000 repair. Thank you Carlos!

November.
-Spent $300 on a rental car so I could get back and forth to school for a week.
- Got the car back. Still acting funny I think - very stressed.
- Very, very behind in my classwork due to missed days. No fucks to give. Mostly sit around staring at the walls during my "free time."
- Professors being extremely lenient in regards to make up work. I felt guilty that I was taking advantage of them by just not doing anything.
- My relationship is in the shitter. It's technically not much worse then it's generally been, but I'm so done with this bullshit. I just want to get my degree and get out.
- I got my first ticket. Was pulled over for not stopping completely at a stop sign in a residential area. Since my record was clean, the cop just gave me a warning for the stop sign, but I forgot to put the insurance back in my car after getting the rental, so he gave me a ticket for no insurance.
- We had Bo put to sleep. He was 11 years old, and we put it off for a long time. He was our last ferret. :( RIP tiny boy.
- Thanksgiving at Sissy's. Mom didn't go. I actually had a really, really great time. The best family gathering I've had in a while. <3
- Put $40 in the gas tank again, Joel owes me.

December.
- Visited Carlos.
- Bought tickets to see a musical in downtown Chicago for Joel & I as his Christmas present. Was planning on going to the German festival, to see the tree, and out to dinner before the show. Came home from Carlos' and canceled the tickets/plans because fuck it. That's stuff I've always wanted to do, and have been asking for years. I'm not dropping all the money I've saved on him, he's not worth it.
- Mad dash to finish/catch up on all late school work.
- Stress over passing my classes due to procrastination and missed days in Oct.
- PC2 ran way over, and I still didn't get it all done. No one did.
- Loaned mom $40, then used my debit card to pay a $15 bill of hers as well. Don't know when I'll get that back. She also borrowed $400 from Grampa after buying Christmas presents for the last 4 months.
- Gave small gifts and cards to all my professors - no thanks from any of them. :/
- I requested cards for mom from the community Holiday Wishes, she was pleased. She said she was going to write up a think you for me to post to the community, but never did.
- I sent out over 27 cards and small holiday gifts, and only got 3 or 4 thank yous. :/
- Started selling excess dubias, made $75 this month.
- Got my grade back. All As! At least I'm good at something.
- Had mom over for Christmas. Took her to Grampa's for Christmas Eve, and then of course she was here for Christmas Day. Took her home the day after. Lots of driving. :/
- Relationship still in shambles. Not completely sure I care anymore. Pretty sure Joel doesn't care anymore either.
- Joel got me some...really odd Christmas presents. Like he has no clue what I would like or do with my time. I felt bad that I asked him to take it back, but I didn't want to waste money. Basically he waited till the last minute, was desperate to get me something, so just latched onto a small idea and tried to expand on it.
- Let mom take Quinn home with her after a month plus of talking about it.
- Went to court for my insurance violation ticket to be thrown out. High point of the month.

Well, that was fun. Here's the a better 2014.
