Wendy Davis Abortion Filibuster

Jun 26, 2013 16:00

While I'm not a resident of Texas, I can't help but applaud Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Forth Worth) for her 11-hour filibuster Tuesday to thwart a GOP-backed bill that would have shuttered most of the abortion clinics across Texas.

Even though she stands against those who would go so far as to bend the law to win (GOPers staged a vote approving Senate Bill 5 minutes after the deadline, declaring victory on it a couple minutes after midnight, then going so far as to change the time stamp on the Legislature's official web page!) she did what she had to do to protect women's right to choose.

I have to urge everyone to take 5 minutes out of your day and write a short message thanking her for her work. What happens in Texas effects all of us, so send some support.
