In The Middle

Gotta love the new White Ninja Comic.

A lot has happened, admittedly, since my last entry.

I make no apologies for not updating sooner! I'm a busy guy, damn it! Plus I've been completely addicted to the RT forums... the Battle of the Posters has been crazy; my first year and I made it all the way to the Elite Eight... heh. Can't wait to try again in the future. ;)

*sigh* I really haven't been in the most chipper of moods today. Tired, sad, lonely, lazy, depressed, you name it.

The past few days...

So... first off, my co-worker Benny (on the far left, that's my uncle in the center, and Joe on the right) just recently handed in his resignation. He's leaving the company on October 18th, which is just three days (if I'm correct) before the Iron Maiden concert. This is sad news for all involved. Benny does so much of the work here at C2 it's scary. Plus I like the guy. *sigh* Such are the pains of a small business. One person leaves, the entire dynamic changes. We're currently trying to hire someone. Not much luck there so far. Hopefully things will improve, but I dunno. C2 without Benny is like a hotdog without mustard. He's told me that I really have to start helping out more when he leaves.... I mean, I understand why the guy is doing it. One of our clients has been a total jerk, and poor Benny has had to put up with so much shit over these past few months it's almost a wonder he didn't quit sooner. Such a shame. He did say he may have some projects for me in the future, though (I've desiged some CD/DVD cases and stuff for his friends).

Come to think of it, I've learned a lot about design from my job here. In fact, if it weren't for this job's honing my mad Photoshop + Illustrator skills, I would never have gotten nearly as far as I did in Battle of the Posters. I think I beat three whole posters this time. Hmmm. I should probably link some of the threads here for future reference and fun, but I'm just too dull and lazy at the moment.

The Koreatown Festival last Friday was fun. Same as last year, except this time I rode on that spinning ride where you stand up along the edge of the rim and it basically spins like crazy and all the blood rushes to the back of your body and you feel like gravity has just gotten a big shaggy rug pulled out from under it while its shoelaces were tied together. I only wish I had eaten a real meal within the last, oh, 20 hours since then. .....sure, I could walk fine afterwards, but I think my brain lost a lot of blood in those few moments. After riding that thing I think I can safely say that I would love to be a ****ing astronaut. The only real problem, I find, is that I'd have to do all those annoying body exercises in space, and even then I would lose muscle. I rather like my muscle, kthx.

I waited at the bus stop for maybe two hours on Saturday, playing Sonic Rush on my DS, cringing at the heat, wondering if I could even make it to the damn Bergamot Station in time before they closed, so I could do my history of photography gallery report. The bus never came. UGH. And I was going to go yesterday until I found out that the place is closed on Sundays. *shrugs* I hate LA. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

Yesterday my grandma came back from Michigan with this huge-ass fish she caught. I may post a picture of it because it really is a marvel. I have no idea how she managed to reel that thing in; she probably had some assistance from any number of her seven siblings. Film Club Officers' meeting last night could have gone worse, but then again I could have also laid off on the fucking coffee that made me piss at least five times that night and kept me up until 3 am.

Meh. It was off to my uncle's after that, and dinner. My tongue was burned because I couldn't taste anything. I remember what my aunt told me earlier yesterday morning; she was going to look for a new place for all of us nearer to a decent bus stop- her, her boyfriend, my grandma and myself - a place where I could stay for a while but easily move out if I had to and not leave this huge void of space. But as with all plans, this one is imperfect. It does not take intto account that my grandma has two dogs, and rarely any place in LA will accept two dogs.... I keep wanting to go kill one of them, but oh well.

I decided to take the early bus this morning (it was just me and this Baptist Chinese guy I see all the time); you wouldn't believe what happened... the bus driver was a trainee, with a more experienced driver sitting behind her, giving her the play-by-play. This driver was really something - instead of going down the path to the Aviation station like any rational being who was listening to her instructor should do, she went up on the ramp going into the highway. ****ing stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid. It wouldn't have been that bad if she apologized, but she was just all "well, you know, these things happen." Goddamn it, at the very least acknowledge that you ****ed up. That wasn't a case of something happening, that was a case of her stupid happening. Why not own up to it? Anyhow, aren't there more standard ****ing training procedures? What are the requirements to driving a fucking bus in LA? Ugh. Anyway, as a result I got to the station about thirty minutes late, and very angry inside (of course, I didn't say anything).

Leaving the office in 30 minutes, max. I've been drowsy as hell all day. *shrugs* Hopefully I'll sleep early tonight or something.

Did you know?

Yesterday was the official Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day. Fark, I missed it. Anyway, what I didn't miss was this here test... Yarrrr.

My pirate name is:
Mad Roger Kidd

Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr! Get your own pirate name from piratequiz.com.

Arrrrr. Can't sleep tonight. I be sad.

I've come to accept that my fate this semester is to be caught in the middle of various opposing forces.

Film Club Liaison  VS Other Film Club Officers & Members VS Film Club President
Co-worker VS Other Co-worker VS Boss/Uncle
Aunt VS Grandma
Little Cousin VS Littler Cousin

It's a little bit funny, this feeling inside. I've always been more of a peacemaker than a confrontational person. *shrugs* More on this later, perhaps.

I feel I should try to work my way through this hangover by telling of the infinitely interesting day I had yesterday.

Yesterday, I hung out with my aunt and her boyfriend. We went to Koreatown Plaza to eat stuff, then went to Universal Studios Hollywood and strutted around with our Front-of-Line passes. Fun place, but nothing really changes there. Once a year is fine, and I've been there twice this year so far. Why can't we just go to fucking Disneyland? At least they have a Wonderland there and stuff. Anyways, afterwards there was much rejoicing as we had Korean BBQ for dinner, and after that it was off to my Filipino friend's house, where I stayed up with her high school friends and some of my other compatriots singing karaoke, drinking and dancing. It was perhaps a day of joy and celebration for all three of my cultural backgrounds - Filipino, Korean and American... and it was admittedly a lot of fun.

Just a random string of thought. Lot of race-related stuff going around that I don't particularly feel like mentioning... the good news is that I don't feel as constricted by racism as I used to be. Not that I've given up on the Asian Crusades (I should probably talk about this at length sometime later). *shrugs* I guess I just hate how America is so racially divided. I mean, I complain about Asians getting the short end of the stick all the time and lacking the social status and respect that is more often paid to other, more sensitive, ethnic groups, but in all honesty... I hate the feeling that maybe I am just adding to the problem rather than subtracting from it. *shrugs*

Another interesting thing... remember way back when I was complaining about the El Segundo cops, claiming racism? Well, my aunt told me yesterday that yes, indeed, El Segundo cops are infamously racist. I told her about the time they searched and booked me and she said that if they do that again then I should get the officers' names and numbers and file a report. Glad to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way. Cops can be such pricks.

Check this out. F'ing hilarious. (Warning: Half-Blood Prince Spoilers!)
