A/N: So I toyed with the idea that captjackspeanut gave me. I know it sucks dear. Sorry! I might revise it later, I’m not known for writing half decent angst when I’m not feeling depressed, so if I feel a little saddened later I’ll fix it.
“It’s starting.” No sooner had the words left Bella’s mouth did I catch Chelsea’s thoughts. She sent her gift at us to break our bonds, to leave us divided.
But for some reason I felt nothing and then the confusion crossed both of our minds. I frowned, “Chelsea is trying to break our bindings,” I whispered, more to myself than any of the others. “But she can’t find them. She can’t feel us here...” I trailed off as I realized there was only one way it couldn’t be working. I snapped my eyes to my wife’s face. “Are you doing that?” I asked Bella.
She smiled grimly at me. “I am all over this.”
I didn’t have time process that thought because Jane’s anger intensified suddenly, and as I saw who it was directed at, fear and panic welled within me. She would not do this to him. Not to the one, who besides my wife and daughter, I would give my life for. If Jane caused Carlisle even a fraction of a second of pain, I would make hers a hundred times worse when I killed her.
I lurched forward, already fearing that I was too late, and grabbed Carlisle’s arm, pulling him towards me, towards safety.
Caught off guard, he staggered slightly into me. “Carlisle? Are you alright?” I gasped, my voice frantic and my breath ragged from my panic.
“Yes,” he replied calmly, and slightly confused, added, “why?”
“Jane.” Was all I could manage. In my extreme relief for his safety, it took my brain a slight second to understand why, and then I was utterly stunned. Bella was doing this. She was protecting us, all of us with her shield. “Incredible,” I muttered.
