I really wish something would happen that would make America wake-up to the fact that they don't have to choose between Republican or Democrat. Then we might get someone remotely capable in the White House.
This election because of that attitude came down to a choice between corporate socialism (McCain) and just plain socialism (Obama). I don't think I need to mention that I feel that socialism, of any stripe, is something to be avoided, so for me neither of these two candidates was even a consideration.
To top it all off, I had to vote for opponent for everyone of my congressmen that were up for election. In the case of Saxby Chambliss, the man voted in favor of three pieces of legislation that I feel are unforgivable: the act that enabled Real ID, the bailout of Wallstreet, and allowing the "Justice" Department to perform wiretaps without a warrant.
I keep hearing the dumbest line in favor of the first and last that "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about." That's not the point! I have nothing to worry about...NOW! What happens when some less scrupulous (I know that's going to draw some cynical feedback) politician with an axe to grind decides that something I do -is- objectionable? They now have the infrastructure in place to pursue that. Real ID? Do you have your travel papers commrade? Warrantless wiretaps? Dissent is a precursor to terrorism after all, so your speaking against the government is subversive. Don't believe that can happen in the US? Check into something called the Alien and Sedition Acts.
Anyway, I'm just rather grumpy that people seem so happy that either of these jackasses won.
