This Term is Going To Kick Ass.

I'm so excited for this semester after classes have started. That never happens. Normally, I'm so pumped and then I walk into class and my brain turns off.

Leilah is possibly one of the few professors that actually implements the move around and get to know folks thing that people talk about in education. Then again, she has a learning sciences cross-appointment. We talked about the ridiculousness of the term usability today, or rather it's multifaceted nature and exactly what we're supposed to evaluate when our employers are like dude, make a product that's usable. Jen who I've worked out with once and was chatting with for a bit is in that class, which is awesome. I know people in my classes! Also, the nice guy from Networking, Solomon is at least considering registering, but hasn't even got onto the wait-list yet. And this is all for user interface design which is, you know, one of the gateway drugs to human-computer interaction, and I'm excited and fascinated and not particularly daunted by reading multiple chapters between classes on top of assignments.

Dr. Di Eugenio's  methods in computer science research has yet to be useful but is full of delightful oddities and an opportunity to actually meet my year mates. A couple of people from my networking class, Musa, William?(I think) and Arjun, Sean from the ACM and CSGSA are all taking the class, which is awesome. There are a lot of names that I already know, and she's kicking off the class with everyone giving two minute presentations. One of the Italian students started off with drawing a horribly out of proportion map of Italy and the USA, and this expanded as students kept coming up to the board and drawing pictures that resulted in Vietnam and Bangladesh being the same size as India, while California ended up being significantly smaller than Vietnam. And almost half of the class had flown through (or was born in, or had considered entering the top engineering school in Italy) Como, Italy and it was this hilarious sequence of developments. At least a chapters of reading here each class, too.

Video game design is tomorrow and I'm totally pumped.

So while Mia is going three chapters for two days? PSHAW. I'm also reading 3-4 technical papers a day and that number has to increase for me to stay on top of everything. On top of that, I'm studying for my qualifiers and just praying for passes in February.

Braden is getting OT tonight and working a full eight on Saturday at time and a half, so woot, a bit of money on his next paycheck. Hopefully that means soon our entertainment budget will be shared on both of our bank accounts.

I'm starting to track all of my research at  http://howtobecomeausabilityqueen.blogspot.com as well as studying. If you're curious, it'll be there for the next time you have to blow your brains out with computer science.
